Upon finishing Children of the Mind during the summer i noticed how you left the end of the book so open for a next/sequel, will there ever be such a book, or was in the ending intended for the reader to make up there own sort of ending that could happen?

I'm just rereading Shadow of the Giant and loving every moment. This collision of the two strings of fate has the potential to be truly amazing.

Fraid not Fayt. The Shadow series (starting with Ender's Shadow) follows Bean's story from his first memory (more orless) all the way through to... well... *that* would be a spoiler ^_^.

But the vast majority of it takes place on earth, and is much less fantasy than the Bean series. It's also much more political, with the occasional remnant of moder-day issues, making for a much more realistic read, in my opinion.

But it's certainly just as good, and quite possibly better (again, IMHO) than the Bean series.

I don't think that was Fayt's question Eva.

There is supposed to be a post-CotM book that combines the Speaker series with the shadow Series.

Sorry, the way it was phrased I wasn't sure what "the book" was after Fayt mentioned not having read the first Shadow book. I didn't know if he/she was referring to the book of the topic, or the first Shadow book, as the beginning of the sentence mentioned.

So there's two new books in the works then? One of Ender meeting the surrogate mother of Bean's child (Randi right?), and one *after* CotM where Ender meets the rest of Bean's kids that went into space to await a cure?

-spoiler-

well, it wouldn't be Ender meeting Beans kids, only his Auio in Peter's body or Valentines body will meet Bean and his kids, physical Ender is dead at the end of cotm. But im thinking like you eva, cause i really really want there to be a sequel to cotm where all of the un tied ties are taught.

Ender's auia is him. Whether it's in Peter's body or not doesn't really matter.

OSC has said that he won't write the story of the descaladores because he's not interested in that story.

I disagree. Or at least, Ender's auia is not ALL of him. The Ender we know is his auia, his life experiences, the commitments he's made, his memories. Of all those things, only his auia went into the "Peter" body. The new Peter doesn't have Ender's memories or life experience. He does have whatever of Ender's traits were inherently him - perhaps his bravery, his kindness, that kind of thing. But how much of a person is innate and how much is learned? All the learned stuff is gone.

And his commitments and loyalties are gone too. Otherwise, he'd be cheating on Novinha to be young and in love with Wang-mu. But OSC was pretty clear that that marriage had ended with Ender's death.

Not true. At least, not as I understand it. The new Ender has all his memories and life experiences -- the auia contains all those things.

Hmm. I didn't catch that the first (few) times I read CotM, but you may be right. What I got was this:
quote:
He had thought that perhaps when his body had complete possession of the aiua, he would become Ender - he would have a lifetime of real memories instead of the paltry faked-up memories that had come with his body when Ender created it. No such luck.
Although his body does have some of the reflexes and physical memories of Ender - for example, he thinks of himself as old, and is surprised to find his body is young; and sleeping next to a woman feels familiar even though Peter has never done it.

But today I found this (which has obviously been added since the last time I read the book [Wink] ):
quote:
Somewhere inside him were Ender's memories. But he hadn't touched them yet, except unconsciously from time to time. Indeed, he was virtually hiding in her house in order not to rekindle those memories.
So I guess his soul has the memories even if his brain doesn't remember them.

Does that mean we're both right? [Smile]
