I just read Magic Street (I know, I know, I'm late), and I must say, it was great. But there seemed to be something.....lacking. I think that the characters weren't as developed as, say, in the Alvin Maker series. I guess it's just that I'm so used to reading series, that I'm just not used to reading stand alone books. But what I'm talking about is, for example, Yolanda White/Yo Yo/Mab/Titania/Queen of the Faries (Whatever you prefer to call her) seemed too 2-dimensional. You don't really learn much about her, she was just "some chick" to me for most of the story. Puck/Bag Man/Mr. Christmas was also like this. I would have enjoyed a chapter or 2 in their perspective. I love character development, and really caring about characters, which is why I cannot stop myself from reading OSC books, no matter what the english teachers say! (If you're wondering, we have a limit imposed on us on how many books we can read by a certain author, only 1 per author)

I really liked it-- although there were a few things, as a almost-lifelong L.A. resident (okay, I spent 2 years living somewhere else) that just struck me as wrong. I haven't read it, though I would like to. It's just that too many of Card's essays and reviews suggest a "conceit" against hollywood that isn't true. Why would I pick up another of his works (to fund this site, in small portion), given that the author knew so little, presumed so much, and had the audacity to try and commercialize that conceit with so ridiculous a title?

Wow, WHO is "presuming so much"? You are completely wrong about what the book is about. But feel free to continue to deprive yourself of it.
And why are you here, if that is how you feel about OSC? Not everyone here adores him, but most (?!?) are not boycotting his books! Or at least if they are, they don't feel the need to announce it publicly.
