very minor, but humerous on page 141 at the bottom of the page in the author's definitive ed. od Speaker for the Dead, Miro is making his way to the piggies log cabin by following the river and reminising about Libo who had passed away. However, once he stops and continues on heading to the cabin suddenly its Libo crossing the river, though its gone to present tense.

I ussally look at this forum and dont write anything but i am tired of people always finding the errors and reporting it on this site.
As a 10th grade student I hear enough about gramatical errors on my own papers. I don't want to see threads talking about my fav. author's errors when i get home.

Wow, I'm the complete opposite. I'm in tenth grade, and love hearing about grammatical errors, and problems in plot... Going into present tense. I never get enough of it in school... This board is like a safe-haven for a rampantly insecure teenager like myself who loves correcting other people's use of the English langauge to make myself feel superior.
Of course, I kid. Although I always have gotten a kick out of correcting peoples grammer. <Grins>

heh..look at what i said..i dont care...and i do enjoy his books no matter what silly thing pops up...in fact...even being a writer...i am better with words that perfect grammer...thats what editors are for

If I were your editor I would hire a temp to go through and pre-edit for me, because that just hurts to read. Actually, I guess I could get through it if I pretended to myself that I was translating your writing into English. I mean, I'll feel really bad if it turns out you are typing with a mouth stick due to being paralyzed or something.

Thank you for being a jerk. It was around 2 am, and I was sitting in the dark because my boyfriend was asleep in the same room. I miss one word, which fortunately I do know how to spell, and suddenly I am the epiphany of the worst writer around.
Much obliged for the sincere "complement". Im sure all of us have perfect grammar and spelling at early hours of the morning.

Epiphany: A sudden manifestation of the essence or meaning of something.
This is yet another definition of the word, so either could have been used. Not a mistake, unless you want to pick only the most basic definition of the word.

You can argue it, but you used the word incorrectly. Normally I wouldn't care, but since this whole topic is about nit-picking useless things we can play it out.
If it was used the way you're arguing you would be saying, "... and suddently I am the sudden manifestation of the essence of the worst writer around."
Again, going back to my metaphysical point, since you seem to be calling yourself the "manifestation of the essence" of someone other than yourself...

I didnt start a "nit-picky" thread. As I stated, I didnt really care, but posted for those who enjoy picking up on such things (as I had seen quite a few posts made on it prior). I, myself, am not a grammer freak, and hate picking on everyones little errors. This is a forum, and hardly ANYONE uses correct grammar, spelling, or even syntax. Just look around. I was not picking on Mr. Card's writing, in fact I thought it was cute and added character.
So please, go back up to my first post and see what I had said. I was not harsh, and in fact, was quite overzealous to get the point across that it wasnt a BIG deal to me. If I had known I was going to get a personal attack for this, I would have never had the mind to share.

Tom, I don't get it. I pronounce "grammar" as "grammer" and I don't think I've ever heard it pronounced differently--I even looked it up in Webster's and that second a is a schwa sound, which I'd represent as grammer if spelling phonetically. Am I being dense, or does the smiley represent a joke I'm not getting (thereby proving that I'm being dense)?

I was going to comment on something silly i found on the misspelling of the word "grammar" in the OSC thread that is now found linked in this one, but I found something in Mr.Card's post that should make nit-picking on forum posts seem silly (though I know that wont cause them to cease ).

Hence what I was trying to get at in my previous thread. Oh well, in the long run, what does it REALLY matter. I am not attending UNCG anymore, so who really cares what grammatical errors pop up outside of my more formal writing. I'm out of my schooling days, and as Mr. Card even states, I am mostly a writer of prose and poetry, with the occasional narrative fictin, and do not often follow perfect grammar or word placement. In fact, I was once instructed by a workshop professor to write more with feeling than worring over small errors that could easily be corrected later in the process.
