I dragged up an old review by OSC and was surprised to find that he had few king things to say about Ralp Fiennes, by far one of my favourite actors. While know one could denny that he specializes in rôles which are, as OSC pointed out, "unlikeable," he plays these very well indeed, as with Comandant Göthe in Schindler's List and Lord Voldemort in The Goblat of Fire.
The review as old, pre-Voldemort but most definetly post-Göthe.

He's good as Voldemort. But he has no range. Impassivity is not easy to bring off, but must it be the primary acting technique with EVERY role?
He's not one of the handful of actors that I can't stand to watch - he's just fine. I don't expect all that much from him, and he always delivers an adequate performance. Sort of a British Kevin Costner.

Yeah, I don't want a hero who says, "I would die for you." I want one who says (cf. Patton), "I will stop that s.o.b. from killing you." <grin>
