I love Wegmans, and was pretty excited to see them getting the praise they deserve from OSC. I frequent the store mentioned quite often, and while it can be a pain to get into and out of depending on the time of day, it's well worth it. Walking through the deli, bakery, and cheese section makes me feel like I'm back in Germany.

What's Wegmans. I've never heard of or see one before. Is it a grocery store? Anything that is like post tearing down of the wall Germany I am all for, that place is great.

Wegmans is only the best grocery store in the world, especially for those who like to cook.

Behold the glory of Wegmans

Wow, I had no idea Wegmans had made it down to Virginia. Well, I bet the ones there don't have Charlie the Butcher carving WNY style Beef on Weck. [Razz] Wegmans stores are great, though. Nicely designed, CLEAN, especially the bathrooms. It's a great place to go and have lunch, as there is enough variety (in addition to what Uncle Orson mentioned, ours have sushi, subs, pizza and wings) that even a picky eater like me can find something. Thomas (my son) loves the play place so we can shop at our leisure. You can tell they treat their employees right, they are consistenly in the top 10 for companies to work for (#1 for companies of 10,000 employees or more).

I don't know, our local grocery store had a pipe bomb in front of it today. It caused the closure of the busiet street in Salem, and they called the bomb squad! Then there was another bomb in the hospital, which was dealt with. Then there was a fire that I could see from my house, which was caused by the completely unrelated burning down of a local store; which was about to close. It looked like a nuclear plume. All of this happened today. None of the bombs exploded thankfully. The bomb squad took care of that!

And now apparently, two more were discovered!

Whoa, whats goin' on up there? People are goin' insane. Try to stay away from all that if you can?

Was a Wegman's the place where one of the bombs was discovered. I'll have to make note not o go to that one when I go a journey for one.

No, no, no, I live very, very far away from there, I was merely joking that my local grocery store was better.

I went to Wegman's in New Jersey, and it is the coolest grocery store ever. We went to see the truffles -- these highly-expensive truffles were just sitting in the produce department, with hand-written price tags in three digits next to them. It was crazy.

I want to live near a Wegmans someday.

He keeps writing about stuff I don't have. So now I guess I'm going to have to go find a Wegman's next time I'm in northern VA. And on the way up there I guess I'll just have to stop in Greensboro, rather than sailing past it on I-85 as I usually do, since he insists on mentioning LeBlon in every other review and I really want to try it! (There is great churrasco in the Atlanta area but it's too pricey for me--LeBlon sounds a bit more affordable.)

We go meet my Hubby there for lunch about once a week! I love it soo much! I hit the Asian Buffet Bar and he gets either sushi or soup/sandwich combo. My little girl loves to eat up in the gallery area and watch everything going on down below. Everyone is happy. And now I hear they are opening one closer to me so I won't have to drive 45 minutes to get to it. Oh the joy! If your in No.Va go to the Fairfax Wegman's and enjoy yourself! Spend the day! I am not kidding! The bakery could take all morning in itself!

I'm glad to know that others love Wegman's as much as I do - and I'm encouraged to know that the other Wegman's stores are just as good.

Leblon is wonderful indeed, but I can't promise that you won't consider it pricey. Or even pricy. I can't remember which spelling is preferred <grin>. I'm becoming paranoid about that after cooky and adrenalin got such a drubbing elsewhere in this forum ...

As for "writing about stuff you don't have" - Um, isn't the point of reviewing to pre-test things that your readers haven't experienced in order to tell them whether they'd like it or not? I'm just preparing you for the day when EVERYBODY lives in Greensboro. (Remember, what I write is first and foremost a column for a local paper.)

Considering how fast WNY area kids move away to NC, your column is well appreciated here. [Wink] Stupid Buffalo job market.

Oh no please there are too many people who to begin with, or would the US just become an extension of Gboro.

I have to remember that people don't get my sense of humor in real life, and that it really doesn't translate well on an Internet forum! Anyway, my apologies for whining--I love the reviews, Mr. Card, even the Greensboro stuff, and I'm certainly aware that Greensboro is the audience you're writing for! It probably shows that I have no life that once I discovered "Uncle Orson Reviews Everything" a few years back I went and read all of them. (OK, so maybe I skimmed some topics. . . )

I saw a review somewhere (can't remember whether it was yours or not) from a few years back that said Leblon was something like $29 for dinner. Much better than the $45 I was quoted when I called around here! Even if prices have gone up since then.

How does it compare to Tucanos in Provo, if you've eaten there?

I have to say that I now know so much about where I might like to eat in Greensboro, I'm gonna have to spend a fortnight there if I ever go just so I can try them all. [Big Grin]

And I wasn't drubbing cooky and adrenalin! Just mentioning my reactions to them!

I like the local flavor because it reminds me of when I used to be in Greensboro, which is where many of my most pleasant memories are rooted.

Just wait a few years - I'm sure you'll be seeing them on the west coast soon. I used to live in Rochester, NY and actually shopped regularly in store #1. Of course, it was already a chain by then, but it's fun to say I've been in the original. Unlike most supermarkets, Wegmans tries to buy everything locally. And their generics are actually better than the brand names for a lot of things. You don't usually react to supermarkets unless there isn't one, but somehow Wegmans makes people talk about it like it's a magic shrine or something. Kinda cool, in its own way.

Argh! None in Michigan yet, but Erie, Pennsylvania is close to Ohio...which is close to Michigan. It's only a matter of time!
