I was just observing that it has been a while since Mr. Card has posted on here, which is really too bad. I enjoy reading his responses to others that usually combine keen insight with an enjoyable wittiness (is that a word?).

I guess some posters (myself included, to an extent) used this forum as a place to post our critiques of his latest novel, some of which weren't positive. Mr. Card, I fervently hope that you have not chosen to abandon us because we had the cheek to metaphorically walk into your house and tell you we didn't like how you arranged your furniture, how the previous paint job looked better, and, oh my Lord, what in tarnation were you thinking when you picked THAT wallpaper?!

I can understand your frustration, but I hope that you realize that most of us wouldn't be regular visitors of Hatrack if we did not have a great deal of respect for your opinions, philosophy, and considerable contributions to the literature of our day.

Then again, it's entirely possible that you aren't posting because you're fervently writing about 20 novels as I type this, in which case I have no complaints.

If OSC hated us, he'd prolly shut down Hatrack.

I like to keep the idea in my head that the latter is true...he's writing about 20 novels.

I think the only one of us Card hates is Bucky.

He's ugly and he smells.

OSC sightings on Hatrack are seasonal (kind of like birdwatching [Wink] ). I would guess they depend more on his own ratio of busy to bored than anything anyone else does or says.

Hmmmm...he's an author trying to get some books written. Perhaps you should be concerned when he is posting more regular here. He's got a pretty full slate of things he is up to these days. Besides, we have Kathryn who is pretty darn close to OSC. [Smile]

He is trying to put the finishing touches on an Enderverse story about Peter for IGMS. I don't have any inside track, I just pay attention.

I'm sure Card is a busy man. Like Pooka said, I think he's writing a new novel right now, so we have to be patient. Ü

I don't post much, but have lurked around for awhile... mostly to read Uncle Orson's Reviews of Everything, but here's my question:

How the heck is OSC able to DO all the things he does? From reading his reviews, he's apparently doing much more than just writing 20 novels.

He's also apparently...
- watching LOTS of television (American Idol, Smallville, 30 Rock, Amazing Race, Medium...)
- reading (or listening to) LOTS of books (everything from YA novels to history books about Pompeii)
- listening to LOTS of music (opera, country, blues)
- watching LOTS of movies (mostly with his family, it seems)
- shopping and eating at places all over Greensboro
- keeping up on current events and world affairs
- and playing LOTS of board games.

Somehow he finds time to not only DO all of this, but also make notes and write REVIEWS of these things!

All while supposedly writing the ENDER'S GAME script (and those 20 other books)!

As a writer myself, I need to know his secret. I have a whole list of books and films I can never find time to read or see, let alone all the undeveloped writing projects that are backlogged.

Has OSC ever mentioned how he's able to keep up on all this stuff?

I'm guessing he has managed to slow down time for himself much like Lanik Mueller learned to do in A Planet Called Treason.

I pretty much assume OSC has all of the gifts, powers and help that the main characters in his novels have (because the only way he could write the characters so well is to have first hand experience, right?). Therefore, with the Oversoul, Jane and the Maker on his side, he's got time to do everything on that list and spend most of the day napping.

Hey guys,

I hope I didn't sound critical in my original post. I simply intended to express that I've been wondering if there was a specific reason for a decline in the posts by our favorite author. As an avid reader of World Watch and UORE (reviews), I know that Mr. Card is extremely busy, and I've always been deeply impressed that he maintains these forums AT ALL, let alone that he posts.

I simply wanted to ascertain whether there exist sore feelings towards these forums after some of the discussions about Empire. It's like if I have a friend who doesn't get in touch for a couple of weeks, I start to wonder whether I said or did something wrong the last time I spoke with them. In this scenario, I might call or send an email asking "is everything all right?" Of course, Mr. Card isn't a personal friend, but my original post was intended as the rough equivalent of that inquisitive email/phonecall.

In the meantime, I'll look forward to Card's next publication, be it a book, video of a play, review, or post on these forums.

I'm betting my money on the movie script. I think its a good thing though, the more time spent on revising that, the better the movie will be.

Two of the things that keeps OSC really busy is teaching at SVU (there's a heckuva commute from Buena Vista to Greensboro) and directing plays. In the past, when he's been directing a show, he stops posting for about a month leading up to the show (yes, I'm that obsessed with OSC's post count [Smile] . I like reading EVERYTHING he writes, even Hatrack posts.)

I just think there are multiple OSCs. Its become more of a family owned franchise now. He just delegates to different members of family to write different things.

OSC being active on the forum is the exception, not the rule. If you think otherwise, you haven't been here very long [Wink]

There is only one Orson Scott Card. kacard is his wife, who posts here more often but in less quantity. Puppy/A Rat named Dog/Geoff (who is OSC's son) is probably here most often. One of his daughters posts here, but I don't quite remember the details of her identity.
