Cool. I got my Red Prophet comics the other day. They are very well done. Wyrms should be neat. I’m wondering what will be next. I of course assume that an Ender comic will have to wait for the movie. I know which I’d really like. Pastwatch. One of my favorites. So any others people think would be a good one for the comic world?

It will be six issues, shipping monthly. The trade paperback collection of all six issues will be out in October (and is on Amazon right now...) Each issue features two covers, making it extra cool -- collectible wise.

I'm really proud of these books, especially because I contributed absolutely nothing to them, apart from recommending excellent writers for the two series. The Dabel Brothers are a quality operation and I'm proud to have these adaptations in existence.
I'm also planning to shop them all over Hollywood, since comics look so much more like a movie than novels do <grin>.

So has anyone gotten this yet? I've been lazy about finding a comic book store, but always keep an eye out for a Wyrms trade paper back at the bookstore, haven't seen it yet.

The trade paperback (or rather, hardcover) should be out later this year...the first issue was just released through Marvel, with issues 2-6 hitting comic shops monthly from now on...

I've had my copy of Wyrms Marvel Comic Trade Paperback on pre-order at Amazon.com since December. I got an email today saying it has (finally) been shipped. The trade paperback edition was supposed to be out last October, but I guess it got delayed.
I'm looking forward to reading it. I'm kind of surprised the whole novel was adapted in just 6 issues. The Red Prophet comic took 12 issues, even thought I think the novels on which they were based were roughly the same length.

I actually think Wyrms would be an easier book to get made into a movie than Ender's Game. It probably doesn't have the same large core fanbase, but you wouldn't have the problems associated with making a movie that puts a child actor in almost every role.

The big climax (in all manners of speaking) at the end of Wyrms with the adolescent girl actress could be a bit tricky to film and keep it rated PG-13. I'm not so sure I'd want to see this particular book as a movie.

I'd LOVE to see Wyrms as a movie. The Geblings and Gaunts and Dwelfs would be awesome. I was just hoping for a Wyrms film the other day, actually.
The end scene could be done in a number of acceptable ways, including making Patience older by the end of the film and having her be impregnated by Unwyrm without any actual "rooting in her groin" (was that the turn of phrase used in the book?) - something more like an immaculate conception. Spores, maybe? Who knows. It could be done.
I just want to see disembodied heads in jars talking on the silver screen. That's wicked awesome.

Spores? I hope not. I like the scene the way it was written in the book. I'd want to keep it.
It wouldn't hurt the story if Patience were older. You could still achieve a PG13 with judicious use of lighting, camera angles, etc.
Or it could be an R movie, ala Aliens and Blade Runner. Go for a little more violence and gore.

Well, I like it, too. I'm just throwing that out there. There are ways it conceivably (ha ha, pun) could be made more acceptable for a relatively conservative audience.
I'm really surprised by how many people are apparently grossed out by that scene. The reviews on Amazon practically all mention it, most of them unfavorably. EWW HUMANS HAVING SEX WITH AN ALIEN WORM. Yeah, welcome to the genre of science fiction.
I like that scene. It feels homey and friendly. Sci-fi just isn't sci-fi without come vaguely sexual creep-out (or overtly sexual, as the case may be.) If there were no lusty alien worms in Wyrms, it just wouldn't ring true. Good times!

I read the Wyrms trade paperback tonight. I agree with another poster who said this comic suffered from trying to cram a whole novel's worth of ideas, characters, and actions into just six issues of comics.
Several important concepts--such as the origin of all non-human species on Imakulata and the empty subservience of the gaunts--were only hastily mentioned or implied in the text. Particularly in the last 3 comics, the result was a mish-mash of characters whose stories were confusing, misleading, and ultimately unfulfilling. On two occassions I had to reference back to the novel (which I hadn't read in ten years) to figure out what was going on in the story.
I think Jake Black did as good a job as possible, given his space requirements, but a novel of this depth needed a full 12-issue translation into comic form, just as Red Prophet had.
