I have finally finished my dissertation on "Enchantment". "The Feminist, the Witch and the Princess: Female Characterisation in O. S. Card's Enchantment". I'll defend it in two weeks. It can be read here: MA Memoir Blog
All commentaries are welcome, but I'm not an English native speaker, so don't expect a nice, fluent style; it is academic (some would say "pedantic", but well, it had to be written that way). I hope it is not reserved to the overbold.

Hmm I don't have a myspacae accoun, but would be interested in reading it, any possibility of putting it in a place that doesn't require myspace registration?

I'd also love to read it, but am unwilling to register with myspace. Can you post it somewhere public? (Like a blogger blog?)

I must say, having a list with 'Witch' in the middle, you missed a really excellent opportunity to put 'Wardrobe' on the end.

Oops, I didn't know you had to have a myspace account to read it. That's blackmail. Since I created my account specifically to post my dissertation I guess it was pointless. I must be too naive. Anyway, I created a new blog, and now it should work. Hopefully. The Feminist, the Witch, and the PrincessPosts: 6 | Registered: Jun 2008

Thank you for posting that! Have you presented it yet? Will you have to do an oral defense? What did your adviser think of your topic?

I am defending it in about ten days, on Tuesday 24 June. My adviser thought I'd rather focus on something more "serious" (she had Sir Mallory's "Le morte d'Arhtur" in mind), but she was kind enough to let me keep this subject. She is (not so) secretly wishing that I'll come to my senses before the beginning of the second year of MA...

That sort of thing might not be good for one's doctoral candidacy. LOL
Well, studying Fantasy is not good for one's doctoral candidacy either.

I liked it, though didn't fully comprehend on my first read, obviously.
Make sure you submit it to the "Research" area of the site so people who don't come to the forums can read it too.

I'd love to post your dissertation on Hatrack in the teacher/student section. Would you allow us to do that, and send us a copy?

Right off the bat my criticism is that it is The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints (bold mine). It is fine to abbreviate or shorten in second mentionings, but not in a title or for the first time. This is a sore spot that probably would bother Orson Scott Card if it was done in a less "innocent" manner.
I see you do that with source bibliography, but the above still stands.

My appologies, I meant no harm. I'm pretty sure I remember reading "LDS Church" in some of Card's articles, but I understand why the distinction might be important. Especially when it is mentioned for the first time to an audience with only a sketchy knowledge of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Thank you for your advice.
I would be glad to provide a copy for the student/teacher area, thank you for your proposition. However I use a Mac, therefore you have to tell me in what format you want me to send you my dissertation. The original file is ".cwk" (AppleWorks) but I can convert it. ".pdf" is heavier but it preserves the lay-out, while ".doc" may change the lay-out (not that is very important...). It is up to you. The third appendix (which is not included in the "blog version") contains a sample of covers from foreign editions, if you're interested I may send it, but only as a pdf file. Last but not least, where do I send it?
