There are a number of references to the original bugger attack and their "terraforming" in China.

How much detail do we know what they were trying to accomplish and the timeline of events?

The buggers were trying to establish a new colony. I always thought the timing was hazy so it could always be considered about 100 to 200 years in the future.

I'm not sure about them terraforming China. The first invasion was in fact the scathing of China. That was their scout. The second invasion was the colony, but I don't think that they ever reached Earth before Mazer Rackham destroyed the Hive Queen. I'm working on a timeline of the Enderverse, but I'm not sure when the first invasion was. Just that the second invasion was around 1250-1255 BSC (Before the formation of Starways Congress). There are references to events that happened on Earth as happening hundreds of years ago, but nothing that you can really get an accurate year in terms of AD. So instead, I'll make the timeline in reference the formation of Starways Congress as established in Speaker for the Dead.

It seems that the "scathing" of china was just the buggers burning all they came across. They were destroying all native life so the planet would be ready for the colony.

T:man is right, thier idea of terraforming was killing everything and bringing thier own species.

Ender in Exile Spoiler!!!!!

The only time i think they have not followed that rule was with the gold bugs, if im not mistaken.

I thought they had engineered the gold bugs for themselves.

If I recall, they speculated that the bugs were brought with them to the planet and not native born on Shakespeare.

Actually, the first invasion was referenced in Ender's Game as happening "a century" before the events of the book, so since the Xenocide happened in 1180 bsc, around 90 or so years before that was the Second Invasion. (in the beginning of the book, the Second Invasion happened "around eighty" years before, but there were several years between then and the third invasion) 1180+90=1270 so the First Invasion would have happened sometime between 1270 and 1260 bsc.

As for dating in ad, there have been several references in the Ender Series, all of which seem to establish Ender's Training sometime around 2170-2160. In Xenocide, Valentine mentions that Locke and Demosthenes were created in the 22 century; it can be reasonably assumed that it's the 22 century ad. Then in Shadow of the Hegemon, Bean remembers that the American Civil War happened 300 year before. The American Civil War occurred between 1861 and 1865 ad, so that would put Shadow of the Hegemon around 2160 ad, consistent with the Xenocide reference. Other events can be found here.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to save that.
