On page 307 of Ender in Exile, when they're creating coinage for the Shakespeare colony, the book says that Sel insisted that the cheaper coin have the face of Vitaly Kolmogorov on it, because the lower-denomination coins get more use. Then it is mentioned that instead of calling the coins 'fives' and 'ones', they called them 'Sels' and 'Vits', which would seem to appear that indeed, the Sel was the five and the Vit was the one.

So the quote that comes afterward of "Sel wise, Vit foolish", would be contrary to the old adage of "Penny wise, pound foolish". I think it was meant to be the other way around, but maybe nobody noticed. Or maybe it's that way on purpose, just so people like me, who notice these sorts of things, notice it.

Just an interesting typo, and every book has them. I was a proofreader for a while, long ago, and typos have always jumped out at me whenever I read anything. The funniest one to me in this novel was already mentioned in a thread here - 'Mother shook her heads'. I laughed out loud when I saw it.

I really enjoyed the book, as I have all of OSC's books. It's great to read another Ender novel. . .it's been a while. If we're lucky, maybe we can hear a little more about his life between 'Ender's Game' and 'Speaker for the Dead'.

Cheers,

Grinding Ewe

This novel has a discussion of which face to put on which coin?

Maybe I can wait for the paperback.

Actually, if you look down the page, there's a thread here called, "Mother shook her heads." I also laughed out loud when I read that.

Yes, there's a very short moment in the book where coinage is discussed. I'm sure all 8 sentences will be hell for you. . .

I'm glad I'm not working for you, man. . . :-p

The point is, if coinage is discussed, what other governmental minutiae is discussed?

I was just kidding though. Card usually sticks to story well enough for me.

I was pretty sure you were kidding. . .hence the emoticon at the end of my post. Your post was funny to me, I just thought I'd goof around a little, with no ill intentions. Ironically, if I had thought you were serious, I probably wouldn't have posted anything.
