I just took my wife out for the evening, and I found some cool stuff. Thought I'd share.

First, I knew that Salt Lake had a college of massage therapy, but I'd never seen it. I heard by word of mouth that they do cheap massages, and that's my wife's favorite thing. Not only that, but this weekend and next weekend are two-for-one, where you can get two massages for $25. Great surprise for a spouse. I told my wife to get dressed up for the gym, and then drove her to the college so she'd be ready, but nice and surprised. I've earned brownie points through the next decade.

Next, for the really cool part. We had a few minutes to wait before we got into the massage, so we wandered the neighbourhood. There was a cafe right next door, and it was one of the most interesting places I've ever been. There was a small buffet of serious gourmet-type food. They had homemade soups, fruit salad, mushroom quiche, chicken linguine, and a few other items. Also, you can eat out front, or they have several private rooms in the back, set up like kind of like Cedars of Lebanon. The food and the atmosphere were both absolutely first rate, but not as good as the idea. See, the place is run by some hippie types who want it available for everyone. So you take whatever you want, and you leave what you think is fair in a basket by the door. If you have less money, you leave less. If you have more money, you can leave more, and the food is worth it. Half the staff is volunteer, and the money that they have left over from the sales is donated to feeding third-world nations. It's an absolutely brilliant place, wonderful even if it was run like an ordinary cafe. And the whole helping the less fortunate aspect makes it even better.

So anyway, if anyone in Salt Lake is looking for cool date ideas, you can't do much better than these. Oh, by the way, they're both on 300 E. halfway between South Temple and 100 S. Just thought I'd let you in on my secrets.

Gee, a cool place where I could afford to eat out. Too bad I'm 3 days drive away. [Wall Bash]
