The other night I experienced a tasty, unhealthy flashback to 27 years ago. In my teen years my usual after-school habit was to grab a 16oz Coke, a bag of Taco Doritos, and read 4 or 5 books.

Except that the company stopped selling the taco flavor in my area a year or so later. And the Coke formula has been tweaked since then; less carbonation, corn syrup instead of sugar, the change to New Coke and the resurgence of "Classic" which still wasn't the taste I remembered. Ah well. On to other snacks.

Only a few weeks ago the local stores started carrying mixed bags of Doritos, including Taco.
And last week a FreshCo Foods opened in our town. A grocery store that carries ethnic foods. And Coke bottled in Mexico. Made with sugar. Crisp, no syrupy aftertaste. Bliss.

For a brief time I was 15 again. I need to go reread all my Heinlein and Ellison again.

Did it taste as good as you remembered, or did you finish and say "what did I ever see in THAT?!"

My dad buys them in Pasadena and always has them on hand (as well as Sprite and Squirt from Mexico.) I drink the Mexican sodas frequently when I'm at his house, they're sooo much better.

It was just about as good, I think. Way better than the weaker, syrupy, too-flat versions available now that I stopped drinking.

I liked the Taco Doritos and am glad to hear they are back in some form. I am mightily pissed that Black Pepper Jack is no more.

My childhood favorite was Dr Pepper and Butterfinger. Not so much anymore though. I hate how the Butterfinger is always broken. I really like Pay Day now.

Shame they no longer make Choco Bliss.
It was such a good decadent 75 cent snack... Such chocolaty gooey goodness.

I've maintained for a few years now that coke in any country outside the US tastes better. It makes no sense that this should be the case.

Cheez-it Barbecue flavor or something like that. I had a box of them and loved them. I haven't seen them on store shelves since.

Argh, you beat me to it PC! I've got them in my fridge right now. And one of the empty bottles in our place of highest esteem. (On top of the fridge, next to our Dr. Pepper wannabe can collection.)
