Last night, I was got home from work last night around 2:30 and as I was walking into the house I looked up at the moon. The moon was brighter than I've seen in a long time, lighting up the valley, and the only clouds in the sky that I could see were right below it, light and fluffy, becoming a two tone purplish color because of the moon. If I had gotten a measuring tape, I'd tell you that Mars was about about an inch and a half away from the moon (from my perspective) and man, that was a bright Mars also last night.
I went in the house, and decided I just had to see it again, so I went out and sat down and just watched it for a while; God had painted this scene for me and I wanted to enjoy it. I sat there for about half an hour, admiring it, when a streak of light passed almost over head, followed by another one. It could have been a fire work for all I know (didn't really seem like one), I'm not sure, but it added to the painting in front of me.
I can't help but feel awed by the beauty, as if the entire thing was for me (I know it wasn't).

Maybe he did paint that exact second for you to drink. I know I've had many of these moments, times when the sky is painted so perfect, so brilliant, so magnificent, that the saying "With God all things are possible." is manifest in some beautiful work of God's art.
The things He can do with the Sun, The Sky, The clouds and the moon will probably never stop amazing me or humbling me in the greatest of ways.

Mars is actually very close (relatively speaking) to the Earth right now, a condition not likely to happen again for a looooong time.

The streaks were a meteor shower, I heard about it on the radio last night. I wanted to stay up and watch, but I've become soft over the summer and couldn't manage to stay up until 2:00. Posts: 1635 | Registered: Aug 2002

It's the yearly Perseid meteor shower. The peak of the shower was last night and tonight, though there should still be meteors for several days, I believe. The best time to see them is a few hours before dawn, but due to the full moon, you won't be able to see the meteors as well.

Another reason I wish we would get a few cloudless days around here. I hate missing out on the view of Mars and the meteor shower... mebbe tonight.
And yep Bob, I do believe God is advertising the solar system to us. I say we jump at the offer!
Before I was married, I used to spend Christmas eve with my Grandmother and then drive down 421 from Boone, NC to Winston-Salem the next morning early enough to see my Mom and open presents. Early one Christmas morning, when it was clear as a bell and the sun had just started peaking over the mountains, I happened to have a vista before me that I will never forget. In the valleys of Blue Ridge, a bank of clouds and fog had settled. From the view above offered by the road, I could see it nestling into every nook and cranny, starkly white at its depths and crimsonny pink where the sun had just begun to smear across it. That morning I drove with a big ol' lump in my throat, thunderstruck by the beauty of the moment. It was the best Christmas present I received.

I love the sky, but what I love more right now are the flowers. We planted a "prairie" wildflower garden around a small fish pond Tom made in our yard.
I just sit there in the short grass with the tall flowers to either side, creating the feeling of protection and envelopment. I look out over the pond to the rest of the yard that flows up a hill and around to our neighbors tree-filled lawns and listen to the trickle of the pond fountain. It is so peaceful and beautiful. And so fun to discover a new flower amongst the masses.
I've never seen meteor showers. We tried for the Leonoids last winter, but had clouds for the entire time Perhaps we'll try to stay up late tonight for the Parseid.

Yeah, He's always tossing all that beauty at our feet, hoping we will see it and appreciate it, I guess. Most of the time I'm too distracted to notice, I'm afraid. If I remember to stop and feel it, there so much love there... in the caress of the wind against your face, in the taste of the air and the pleasure of taking a deep breath, in the smell after it rains. A huge constant flux of love and we forget to notice it. That's so strange.

THIS is why I miss Hawaii. Nights on the beach with significant others...goodness Anini beach is gorgeous at night with the moon half behind a mountain.
I dunno why, T, but I just got REALLY overwhelmed with emotion when I read that post. I wasn't feeling anything in particular (maybe a little hungry) and then I read that and I almost started crying. Weird. o.O

I remember walking home one evening after a particularly horrible day. It seemed like nothing at all had gone right all day long - just one disaster after another. I was feeling pretty bummed out and, as I walked I began to pay attention to the sky. I was walking west as the sun was setting and the sunset was beautiful. I remember thinking that all the horrible events of the day could be chaulked up to people's bad choices and mistakes and that the one thing that God alone truly seemed to have control over was breathtakingly beautiful. Sunsets, people do help out with, in fact. They're much more beautiful in areas with lots of air pollution, as it turns out. <laughs> Still, I know what you mean. His work is usually far superior to ours, when you see them side by side.
