I don't take trains anywhere because they are outrageously overpriced, particularly given the lack of comfort and the length of travel. If I'm in a hurry, I'll take a plane; if not, I prefer to drive.

I really enjoy road trips: staying in different towns each night, the exotic feel of being a stranger everywhere, seeing unique towns and landmarks. And the total freedom to change your plans. Four or five people travel pretty much for the price of one, which is certainly not the case with the alternatives.

Boy, didn't take me long to derail this thread . . .

It took me a while to figure out why this was such a lame topic for a thread.

That usually happens to me with Dobies like this.

I really loved the trains in S.Korean when I was visiting there. It was clean and high-tech looking (this was in the mid-90's). They had this great stocked snack/candy/food cart that went down the aisle. Dried squid, pocky, black bean drink... whatever Korean snacks you might want! =)

American trains suck.

I actually considered doing this dobie but never ended up getting to it. See, this is what comes of not seizing the moment.

Hey, why'd you rail against trains earlier, any way?

You'd have to have some kind of loco motive to speak out against the train.
