This weekend something strange happened to me. I can't tell the details, but for some reason I've gone.. cold... Literally. My chest feels cold, it's like I've got ice inside of me or something.
It happens every time I try to think about whatever is bothering me...
What is going on?

Relax. My first advice is to relax, and then take strides to resolve whatever it is that's bothering you. Just relax, think about your problem objectively and don't panic.

Maybe your synesthesia has worn off? Might be a chilling new sense of reality...

Syn, hard to guess without any details. But it sort of sounds like whatever it was might have been emotionally overwhelming, and you're still trying to process it . . . ? [Dont Know]

Naw, it didn't wear off. It got stronger a few days ago... but then some things happened and now I've gone rather cold.

Heartbreak incarnate
I'm nothing if not your memories
Your heartbreak, please let me be your joy and your pain

Someday I will be, I'll be those common words spoken uniquely
Because I may... will forever be floating as you feel

Please let me haunt as scent on your pillow
Letters of past all tear stained and wrinkled

Please let me haunt as scent on your pillow
Letters of past all tear stained and wrinkled

(Just say) Say you will for me (for me), invite me to your memory
(Just sing) Sing again for me (for me) that long forgotten song

Heartbreak incarnate
I'm nothing if not your memories
Your heartbreak, please let me be your joy and your pain

Someday I will be, I'll be that waking warmth from a fading dream
Because I will... I may at best, float as you feel

(Just say) Say you will for me (for me), invite me to your memory
(Just sing) Sing again for me (for me) that long forgotten song

Let me be all the words, let me be all the words
Let me be all the words, let me be all the words

Let me be all the words echoing comfort
Let me be all the words that you'd unsay

Let me be all the words echoing comfort (comfort, comfort, comfort)
Let me be all the words that you'd unsay (unsay, unsay, unsay)

Let me be all the words echoing comfort
Let me be all the words that you'd unsay

Let me be all the words echoing comfort (comfort, comfort)
Let me be all the words that you'd unsay (unsay, unsay, unsay)

Syn-
When I get nervous, my hands and feet lose all warmth. In fact, they turn almost blue.

As I understand it, it's my body going into survival mode. All the blood goes to the vital organs.

I've learned to control it by lamaze type breathing. More than the deep breathes, I think it is the concentrating on the breathing that helps me relax and get the warmth back into my extremities.

Hope this helps you.

Wow - what great advice, Christine.

I wonder if I've just become a fangirl, and so now everything you say is brilliant. [Smile]

Emotional withdrawal is one of my wife's biggest defense mechanisms. It may help to ask yourself what you might be afraid of?

Deep breathing, as suggested earlier, is almost always good thing.

Mostly I am afraid of losing my friend, and a host of other things.

Empathy can hurt. As Spider Robinson has written,(paraphrasing) if you work real hard on your empathy and get better at it, the first thing you realize is many of your brothers and sisters (globally) are starving to death. Not good. Everyone (except for the rare saint) has some emotional distancing modes--sounds to me like yours has temporarily kicked into high gear.
Besides your friend, have you been eating OK lately? Maybe your brain chemistry is off. Just a thought, I know you are out of work like me.
Good luck, Synesthesia. For your friend also.

I have waaaaay too much empathy.. Way too much.
It's rather scary actually... It seemed to have gotten even stronger at the end of last month. I reckon I am overwhelmed or something. Plus I have been living off of rations. That might have something to do with it.

It actually sounds a bit like anxiety to me.
