The most recent Zogby poll (of LIKELY voters), reports that 45% are happy with President Bush's job, down from 52% in August. 52% of those polled said it's time for someone new in the White House, up from 45%.

http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=732

Is anyone here in the 7% that flipped? Anyone know why they did?

Bush still beats, I believe, any contender in a head-to-head poll. But these are significant numbers, and a little weird. What happened in August?

Nothing?

No WMD found in Iraq or signifigant steps toward stability there.

No economic recovery either.

What I'm curious about is the 45% who think Bush is doing a good job. What could they possibly be basing that off of?

I wonder too Eddie. Its hard for me to think of even one thing he's done that any other president would have done better.

I think maybe its a "support our president in times of crisis" mentality, but it seems to me like we should "get someone competent in times of crisis".

Bush is a Republican. That is more than enough for many people.

Besides, I think he has gone way too far now, what with the Patriot Act and bullshit like that, but had 9/11 not happened and gave him an opportunity to push policies of oppression through a paralyzed Congress, I imagine that I personally would have approved of his actions much more than a Gore or Nader presidency. It might be hard to imagine, but some people really are in it only or mostly for themselves. [Smile]

Well you have to keep in mind that a majority of Americans still believe Saddam had a hand in 9/11, so it shouldn't be so much of a surprise that 45% still like Bush.

Hart:

we've been hearing that same line for months havent we? Regardless of whether the white house's press secretary believes that the labor market is the last thing to recover, we're still seeing catestrophic job loss. And a recovery isn't going to recover much for the people down low unless there's job growth. And we're not seeing it. (and if you'll note, there's really no indication that the new jobs are needed. the dotcom boom put the US through a massive tech growth spurt, which has since seen a decline. Service jobs are moving elsewhere in the world. So what's left?)

I heard on the radio this morning that the Dow finally hit an 18 month high!!!

I think I'm going to move my 401k partially back in to stocks. [Eek!]

The line that's been tossed around so far is that it's a 'recoveryless recovery' or something like that. The stock market has been doing 'better' for some time now. The president's people say that jobs will recover after the stock market does. The flip side of that is that various people had forecasted that the unemployment percentage would drop this past month with a gain of 12k jobs, when it actually rose with a loss of some 90k jobs.

Point is is that the recovery will come at a time of its own choosing that man appears to not be able to know with any accuracy. [Smile]

The economy really needs for California to get back on its feet.

Things should pick up after the recall vote, because at least businesses will know what to expect in the future.

If Davis or Bustamante win, we could see a lot of companies continuing with the major relocations out of the state. Hopefully, the relocations will be within the U.S. and not offshore.

If Arnold wins, I really don't know what to expect. I really wish the Republicans had put up a candidate with some leadership credibility. Arnold, to me is nothing more than a walking sound bite.
