Ahlan Wasahlan, Jatraqueros! I just thought I'd give you all a little update on my new life at BYU.

Arabic lesson this week--Arabs say "Thank God" for everything. It's like,

"Ahlan Wasahlan!"
"Alan Wasahlan biiki"
"'izzayyak (how are you doing?)"
"ilhamdu lillaah (Thank God)"

Of course it actually means "I'm fine, thank God", in context, but I would reply to that with another "ilhamdu lillah." It's actually very entertaining in Arabic class, when the ustaaz says something like "We're moving on now," or "tonight's homework is really easy" one person would say "Ilhamdu lillah" and then everyone else would follow suit in a rousing chorus of "ILHAMDU LILLAH!" The teacher made it very clear that it's not taking the lord's name in vain or anything; if you went to the Middle East and never said "ilhamdu lillah" everyone would think you were weird.

Also, Arabic doesn't use Arabic numerals, they use Hindi numerals. Just to add another layer of confusion, I guess. [Big Grin]

I've noticed that as strict as BYU is, my dorms don't have a curfew. The only rule is that you have to be out of the lobbies of the opposite sex's hall by midnight. I'd go to bed at one or two in the morning and still hear people talking outside my window on the grass. My roomate says she's come in as late as four.

A few days ago we some ominous grey clouds. It rained a little bit that night and the next few days were pretty cold by my standards, but it also snowed over the timpanogos mountains. It was really pretty, even though it melted yesterday.

My hall neighbor has a TV, PS2, microwave, toaster, and several DVDs. Needless to say, we're really good friends [Wink] . She has this cool video game called Dance Dance Revolution that has these cool powerpads that you have to step on at a certain beat. I've seen an arcade Dance Dance Revolution game, and it actually looks really cool when people do it right (esp. if two people do it at once), but hopelessly stupid when people do it wrong. And it costs a dollar.

As some of you might know, last Sunday I was asked to teach a Sunday School class in my student ward. I was like [Eek!] , then [Angst] , then [Cry] . Now I'm sort of between [Dont Know] and [Grumble] . Mostly [Dont Know] .

Tonight there's a big "Fall Fling" with live bands and laser tag. I'm so going to play laser tag all night. Play with those :::lifts fingers::: "Laser Beams" :::drops fingers::: Are any BYU student Jaqs going to be there?

Pnawn da, Muppet! Sut dych chi?

If we have time, Diosmel and I might be there. I'd look for you, but I don't know what you look like, and anyway, there's always about a hundred million people at these things, so it's pretty hard to find people.

Sweetie, you're in college. HAVING a curfew would be weird.

Glad you're having fun. [Smile]

You're at BYU, then? Cool. I can see the campus from my office window. Next time you're on the roof of the SWKT, wave!

I haven't quite decided if I am going to check things out on campus tonight or not. I was discussing it with Damander, and we thought it might be fun, since neither of us has been and it's our third year here (though freshman year, it was cancelled because of 9/11).

As to curfews, just be happy you're not at BYU Idaho where they actually *do* have a real curfew. That and you can't wear sandals, shorts, or capris. It's crazy stuff! (Not that I'm knocking Y-daho, I have many friends that love it, it's just not my kind of lifestyle.)

Have fun with the laser tag! And who knows? Maybe I'll come up there and play a game with you, and we wouldn't even know it! [Smile]

At the Wilkie
Wilkenson Center
RMs and freshmen are making connections
at the Wilkie
Wilkinson

They're all gonna fall in love...

*curtseys* Thank you, thank you very much. One of the members of Voice Male lived next door to me my junior year and married my neighbor. Courtship darn near embarassed the ducks, I remember.

-----

I'm just teasing. I remember these. [Smile] How else do I know what they're like?

Kat, my parents told stories about how the girls had to be in the dorms by a certain hour (I guess they figured the boys wouldn't have anything to do and retire about the same time [Roll Eyes] ).

My brother's at BYUI. He goes on about how he goes to the Lord's college while I had to settle for the church's university, and I tease him for living among pharasies. [Big Grin]

Jon Boy, I think you can look me up on Rout Y under Ashley Lane. It's a really bad headshot, but it exists. And I'll still be wearing the Oscar the Grouch Tshirt I got at Hot Topic yesterday. [Big Grin]
