Last night, I went out with a family friend who was visiting Tempe. As she drove me back to my dorm, we were passed by three fire engines and an ambulance. I then saw that the parking structure next to my dorm was filled with smoke! I still don't know what exactly caused it.
Then just a few minutes ago I heard a loud boom that sounded something like two fireworks going off at nearly the same time. I didn't know what to make of it until I saw four jets flying low and fast over the campus. I guess it must have been a sonic boom.

We're having a Portland get-together soon, possibly over Christmas break. Will you be in town around then?

The fire was contained at the parking structure, apparently. It doesn't even look damaged. I don't know whether anyone was hurt or not, but it did appear that the ambulance was there as a safety precaution, not because someone was injured. No one's stuff (except maybe some cars) was damaged.
By the way, I think I figured out why the jets were flying around. Turns out there's a Cardinals game. Their home games are at the Sun Devil stadium on the north end of campus, and that's the way the jets were headed. It was right about the time of the kickoff too. So no terror alerts or anything like that. Just a football game.
I'll be home on December 18th. I've carefully planned my trip home so that I'll be able to go to the midnight showing here in Tempe. I'll be around until mid-January, and I would love to get together with everyone again! (And maybe Khavanon will have transportation this time...)
