I heard they've given a mandatory evacuation order for Mobile, AL. Not sure about the Florida panhandle, but I heard that hotel rooms are booked as far north as Birmingham.

If anyone needs a place to which to evacuate, I have two spare bedrooms with beds and one more with cots that you're welcome to stay in. The storm will probably come here too, but I'm in a sheltered spot so even if it hits dead on (like Ivan did) it should be fine here, and the latest forecasts are showing the track heading off to the west before it gets this far.

Here is the 5 day track from the NOAA.

Hatrack, you may not hear from our Florida panhandle and Alabama residents for a while - they're predicting widespread power outages as far north as Birmingham.

Don't worry about us, our home has a very safe storm shelter, and we have plenty of emergency supplies and we are at no risk for flooding.

My biggest concern is keeping the kids entertained in the event we lose power, I have board games and cards ready. That's nothing compared to the concerns of people closer to the coast who may lose homes and businesses. Please pray for them.

The hurricane went ashore about an hour ago, at Pensacola. I'm praying for those people in the path of the storm, that there will be no loss of life. It was a very strong storm. 140 mph winds by the time it hit.

Yeah, I hope you guys are o.k.. They were predicting that it would only be a cat 1 or 2 today, and instead it's still cat 4. [Frown]

We still have power, and they're saying the bulk of the storm will pass west of us, however, the east side is the one most likely to spin off tornados so we can't relax yet.

Any jatraqueros in Mississippi?

It's down to a mere 105 mph now, and has sped up to 21 mph and is heading more north again. [Big Grin]

As of an hour ago, it had crossed from the Florida panhandle into southern Alabama. The satellite loop here is updated every half hour.

It's likely to be exciting here in a few hours. So far only one or two big gusts have hit and not much thunder at all. Power hasn't blinked yet at all.

Power starting to blink. Will check in as soon after the storm passes as possible.

All's well here. The storm seemed to fizzle out even before it arrived, much sooner than they expected, I think. By the time it got here it was not even a tropical storm any more but just a tropical depression. The power never even went off.

Same here. Not even any trees down, no big deal.

One good thing about Dennis, is that the storm was so compact. So while some areas in Pensacola did get damage, the damage was not widespread.

Now all eyes are turned to watch Emily.
