Mama just told me about that a short time ago when she got home from work. One of the first times I've gotten anything other than local news somewhere else first.

Hooray for the three-ring circus that is now California politics! Seriously, whenever I see a news item, I continuously hear a calliope in my head. I know it's probably not funny to those who live there, but...

Conservative commentators have been all over this all day. I'm not sure that they're wrong in decrying this suit, either.

Oh but it is funny Megan! In a you-must-be-kidding-if-you-don't-laugh-you'll-cry sort of way.

Pop, I didn't think it really merited mentioning since it will undoubtedly be appealed to the Supreme Court (probably tomorrow.) They have a 7 day stay, so nothing will really change between now and then.
(Not that I think this thread was a bad idea. It's a good idea. I just wasn't going to mention it till the issue was actually settled. )

But...not in favor of the recall - I think it sets a bad precedent.
But...but...darn it, I'm scheduled to be a precinct worker on election day and I was counting on that money to put some food on the table. I hope the Supreme Court reverses the appeals court.

You know, there's more merit to this suit than it sounds.
California passed a LAW requiring that their election procedures be overhauled completely before the next election. This recall, as a gubernatorial election, does not fall into the schedule -- but I think the clear intent of the law was to ensure that the election process be revised before another major vote could occur.

With just a bit of careful scheduling and legal wrangling, California could manage to elect a new Governor before they vote to recall the current one. And then the new Gov and the old Gov can share the mansion! Tack on a snappy theme song, a lovable daughter and a cranky old neighbor and you've got this year's hottest new sitcom! "Torn Between Two Governors!" Wednesdays on FOX.
