"Librarians are the secret masters of the world.
They control information.
Don't ever piss one off."
--Spider Robinson

Yesterday our esteemed attorney general spoke about the Patriot Act. He criticized the National Librarian Association for being stooges of the liberals, panicing, and not being bad but being uninformed about the need to use Library Records in the War on Terror. He left us with the impression of little old women with big glasses jumping at shadows.

The Librarians are going to rip him a new one.

Darth_Mauve: Do you have a link for that?

EDIT: That is to say, "I'm interested in seeing his accusations, and finding out how he is wrong."

As requested,
Ashcroft Mocks Librarians and Others Who Oppose Parts of Counterterrorism Law

quote:
In an unusually pointed attack as part of his latest speech in defense of the Bush administration's counterterrorism initiatives, Mr. Ashcroft mocked and condemned the American Library Association and other Justice Department critics for believing that the F.B.I. wants to know "how far you have gotten on the latest Tom Clancy novel."
It is important to note that following this gaffe, there is this somewhat hopeful response:

Ashcroft: U.S. to Declassify Library Data
