I heard a report this morning that the reporter who broke the story that the British had "sexed up" their intelligence reports to make the threat from Iraq seem more imminent admitted to manufacturing the story, today. Nice job.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=518&ncid=7 32&e=10&u=/ap/20030917/ap_on_re_eu/britain_weapons_adviser

Of course, this is totally buried-- try to find it on the "major" news sources-- but I just thought, since his suicide warranted a thread and a bunch of accusations that Blair was trying to silence him, that the truth should out...

I'm sure Drudge, Fox, and those other "biased and unreliable" news sources will find a little more importance to the story than AP...

Well, the Blair administration isn't out of the woods yet.

The reporter only admitted that he should have used different language, not that he actually lied.

In a way, the Blair administration is saying that they did the same thing.

quote:
Gilligan said. "My error was to ascribe that statement to him when it was actually a conclusion of mine."
In short, he put his words in someone else's mouth.

To be honest, I'm not really concerned with the Blair administration's credibility nearly so much as I am agog at the lack of reaction, responsibility, and accountability in situations like this. I put them in the thread title because I wanted to draw a little more attention. [Smile]

There should be a high standard of proof, but I think that people who act this uprofessionally should face severe criminal charges of some sort... they seem unaware of the reprecussions their actions might have.
