Is it possible to make Goblet of Fire a 150 minute and do it justice?

www.savegof.com

I signed the petition, but I'm not without hope that it can be done. I'm waiting to see. I would like WB to reconsider.

The Star Trek example not withstanding, I don't know if I would want my favorite book turned into a TV series rather than a movie. It just seems to me that television fantasy is often really bad and tends to morph into something that the original was never intended to be.

Two and a half hours isn't a short period of time for a movie, at all. I don't really understand the problem the fans have with that period of time. There have been two other Harry Potter movies that were around that long and I don't recall anyone complaining. Why is GoF different? (Note that I haven't read the book or any other HP book. I'm just asking.)

Oh, Stormy.

I don't even know where to start, except they are wonderful and your life will be better, richer, and sweeter if you read them. [Smile]

signed it!

There's no reason it can't be made into 2 films, shot at the same time and released within 2-3 months of each other.

It's also worth noting that books two and four (and three, to some degree) have generally been wastes of time. The Chamber of Secrets is especially annoying to me -- Rowlings is making only seven books, why waste the paper on that one? I doubt the WB can really screw up a book with no real plot beyond the general "Harry has an adventure!" theme. What was its one plot advancement, that Voldemort returned?

Thus far, the only books that have really impressed me have been one and five (and three, to some degree). If we could but meld one and three into a single book, and erase the second and fourth...

CoS is my least favorite of the series, but still, it's pretty good in my opinion. It introduces the bigotry against Muggle-borns and house-elves, and brings to light the fact that Voldemort was once Tom Riddle, which I think will be a huge thing in the next two books (Read The chapter where Dumbledore fiddles with the machine, and you'll see what I mean).

I signed it... I'm fed up with butchered books.

However, if the movie is divided in half, almost a third to a half of the first movie will be taken up with a quidditch game. Fantastic for fans, but a little low on the story line.

Perhaps this is one of their considerations.

There isn't any quiddich in GoF, and PoA is already in the can without a single quiddich game.

I don't know. I can see trying to save some detail from the book. But on the other hand, they're already taking a year and a half to release the next movie. If they keep this up, then they start dividing the long books into two movies, or taking longer to film them so they can have four hour movies, Dan Radcliffe is going to be about 35 before his character graduates. My favorite thing about this series of films is the idea that we'll get to see a cast actually age as their characters age. I don't know if getting more of the book on film is worth the series getting hit by "Beverly Hills 90210" syndrome.

I do hope the story is edited well, though. That will make a big difference.
