I came across a random piece of information that I wanted to check the validity of. As this is the least biased place I can think of to easily obtain the answer, I figured I'd ask here. How is the LDS (is president or prophet the right word here? The top guy is who I mean.) chosen? Thanks.

When a president dies, his counsellors and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles meet together to prayerfuly choose the next President. Each of the members of the Presidency and the Apostles are considered "prophets, seers, and revelators" and as such can receive guidance as to who the next President of the church will be. In recent history, the new President is the most senior of these Apostles (the one that has been an Apostle the longest).

While off topic, I'm just wondering how many people besides me think GB Hinckley is pretty cool?

The president of the quorum of the 12 apostles has all of the keys that the prophet does but he does not have the authority to use them until the death of the present prophet and his (the president's) ordination. We always know who the next prophet will be through the sacred callings of the 12 apostles. [Smile]
