I'm excited. And nervous. And excited. It's my first neice (I have two nephews). But more importantly, it's my younger sister's first child. And Lori is one of my dearest friends, along with being my sister. So while I know everything will likely go just fine, I can't help worrying and fretting that something will go wrong.
So, those of you who are the praying types, please pray that little Avery Marie arrives safely. And I'd appreciate some calming vibes headed in the direction of my family. Auntie Karen sure could use some, as well as Grandma, who has been calling me with daily updates. But most of all, please send the calming vibes to Lori and Gary. I can't even begin to imagine how exciting yet stressful the birth of your first child might be.

She was due on the 16th. The doctors didn't want her to go too much over her due date, so she was admitted into the hospital last night to be induced. Not sure when the actual inducing was scheduled to start, though.

Talked to my dad (aka Grandpa ). It is going s-l-o-w. They started the procedure this morning, and she's only about halfway dilated. Guess it might take longer than I expected.

Ha! Apparently Grandpa wasn't up to date with the news, 'cause Grandma just called.
Avery Marie was born at 8:34 p.m. this evening. She weighs 9 pounds and 4 ounces, and is 21 inches long. She looks just like mama, with dark dark hair. And according to papa, she has big hands and a small nose. *squees happily* They're all doing well, although Lori is exhausted. She pushed for three hours and then said she couldn't do anymore, so they did a Cesarean.

Isn't she wonderful? She looks so much like our side of the family. I see her mom, myself, my dad, and our great-aunt Ann in Avery. There's no doubting she's ours!
I am stopping by the hospital on my way to my best friend's wedding. Although I'm looking forward to meeting Avery, it's Lori I really want to see. I've missed her terribly. We've both been so caught up in our own lives lately that we haven't had much contact with each other.
