I have a suggestion for the Card's.

If you were to take the best (edited to fix typo. Yes, it said Pest Posts) post's of Hatrack, place them in a small book, and offer them for publication, I think they would sell.

or at least win some awards.

Reading DKW's post on her late grandfather, and some of Bob's posts, and some of Belle's stories of her husband and the Grand Parent thread....there is some good stuff here.

And within a year it all disappears, gone forever, except for what some of us cut and paste away for posterity.

I think some of it is worth publishing, and I'm not saying that just to get something published with my name on it.

Well, that's not the only reason.

Are there post's out there that you think are publishable?

The last post thread would be a shoe in.

Riveting stuff, that.

Many of the Landmark Posts would qualify, I think. Some of the stuff in the Orginal Potry thread. And even though there have been a lot of bad feelings coming out of them, several of the heated political discussions have engendered some truly insightful rhetoric, in my opinion.

I agree. [Wink]

I've asked this question several times on the Original Potry thread with no response [Frown]

There are actually significant legal issues involved in compiling the "best posts" of Hatrack and offering them for sale.

*Runs screaming from the thread . . . . arghhhh, I thought we were anonymous here . . . . quick, erase all the Grammy Ran Me Over threads . . . *

Shudders and hides as paranoia sets in . . .

[Angst]

Just kidding - go for it! What fun. It could be separated into nifty little chapters like "Late Night Lurkers", "I Used to Be a Nerd", "Why I Hate/Love ________", "Medical Advice from those that really care about their inquiring patients, not the profit", "Legal Expertise and other jargon", "Hatrack Love Affairs" and so forth and so on . . . with a preface entitled, "Why Jatraquero/a" . . .

Jon Boy - quick! get in here - we'll need some serious editing.

Where's our attorney types for consent forms - ooohhhh - better skip the medical chapter - that would require HIPPA stuff - no fun . . . well, maybe since these are pseudonyms it would be okay . . .

Can we, can we, can we, please Mr. and Mrs. C - wouldn't this be fun????!!!!

I think the entire Begging the Question thread should be published.

...And the God, you say thread!

They ought to give anything by Garrison Keiller a run for it's publishing money!

What I've thought is it would be cool to have an archive site. Where people who weren't up to the day to day slogging through all the dull stuff could go to find the very best of hatrack collected together. jatraquero.com was going to be that, I thought, but then it fizzled.

I agree that there's good good stuff from way back. Not sure how we would pick what got archived. Would it just be a vote by anyone who cared, plus maybe all threads that go to 10 pages, maybe, or last more than 2 years? Plus all landmark threads?

I think the only thread I was associated with that I wish we'd saved was the asteroid defense thread. I didn't start it but I posted in it a lot. Yebor and some other people have gone mining old threads and resuscitating them but they never seem to come back to life. It's always a matter of the dead cat bounce, it seems.

The AFU Urban Legends Archive is just an archive site for the newsgroup alt.folklore.urban, yet they are a great place to visit and use for reference. And I would never subscribe to the newsgroup which is totally way more information that I care to see. I see the possibility of us having something akin to this. We'd have to have someone with server space who cared to volunteer to host it and maintain it, I guess. Would be sort of neat to have a spot to link newbies to get their bearings. Also to give people a taste of hatrack to let them see if they are interested in hanging around. [Smile]

I've been looking for a new gimmick for my site, but I think this one sounds like an awful lot of work.

And now for me to ask my stupid queastion of the day:

Are you all talking about the taking entie threads that are worth keeping and either archiving them or publishing them, or are you saying they should take posts from all different threads that fit together(similair topics and themes) to make to make something worth keeping, or possibly evenjust individual posts that are in some way out standing and inspirational?

For archiving I understood it to mean whole threads, but for publishing I thought it was individual posts, unless the running dialogue was particularly interesting.

I was refering to some individual posts that read better than a lot of magazine articles I've seen.

however, a best of collection from the God's threads would be great as well.

The secret, assign an editor, reliable, trustworthy, with good taste and a lot of free time to find just the good stuff. My I volunteer--ANYONE BUT ME!!!!

I'd be up for the task.

I mean, we could do it by folks submitting threads and/or posts. Having a few folks look 'em over or summin.

I could archive it on madowl, too.

I think it'd be cool.

Right on, another member of the Hatrack Webmasters Club steps up!

So if this archive does end up happening, who gets to be on the Archive Approval Committee?

I nominate Anne Kate. She doesn't have minions, she has acolytes!! And Tom of course. I think that the approval commitee should consist of the jatraqueros that have been around the longest (that are willing to spend even MORE time online to peruse old decrepit threads.) [Big Grin] Sounds like a good time!

What if instead we added these great threads to the Archive. Or even under landmark posts.
