I'm having a Johnny Depp Fest, and we've decided definitely to do Benny and Joon, but we want to do another one. The main three we're considering at the moment are:
Edward Scissorhands What's Eating Gilbert Grape Chocolat
But I'm open to suggestions. Anyone? Help? Since I'm so indecisive?

Although it's not my favorite movie, his performance in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is outstanding. You can't go wrong with Benny and Joon. Just a side note, I just finished working on Neverland, a movie in which Depp plays the author of Peter Pan, James Barrie. His performance is AMAZING. He's got to be one of the most versatile actors of modern Film.

We've already decided on Benny and Joon, and Fyfe refuses Don Juan, which is hikarious. My vote is still for Don Juan, Jen, but after that Chocolat! Choclate, not saddness!

Ed Wood is one of my favorite comedies. Depp plays the role with a dead-pan panache that is perfect for Wood's sincere yet loony mediocrity.
Donnie Brasco and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas would be my other choices, with Gilbert Grape, Chocolat, and the Ninth Gate as runners up. You really can't go wrong with Depp, he always turns out a good performance. He's one of my favorite actors. I can't wait to see his 3-armed man character in Once upon a time in Mexico.

Edward Scissorhands is one of the best movies ever made. Which is one reason I'm so excited about Tim Burton doing Willy Wonka.

Benny and Joon would be my vote, too, but I'm a huge fan of Keaton, Chaplin and Lloyd. Honestly, though, Depp's got a history of stellar performances behind him. Quirky roles, without a doubt, but oftentimes masterfully handled.
BTW, Sleepy Hollow was pretty good, too. But could you imagine being on set with Depp, Tim Burton, Christina Ricci, Jeffery Jones and Christopher Walken? Talk about being surrounded by extremely talented but creepy folks.

My wife's been making a Johnny Depp fan site (plug: www.deppraved.com) and we spent two weeks watching every movie he's been in. Haven't done Arizona Dream cos it's tough to find, and we skipped the Nightmare movies because we weren't interested. If, by some chance, you get ahold of the movie Private Resort, do not watch it. It's an early 80's teen sex comedy. You do, in fact, get to see Johnny Depp naked, along with a bunch of other people, but it's in the running for Worst Movie I Have Ever, Ever Seen.
I'd vote Don Juan, then Chocolat, then Ed Wood.

He did a good job in Ninth Gate, but it was very disappointing, overall. I don't reccomend. Benny and Joon's good, I watched that about a week ago.

Olivet: Before Night Falls. He's only onscreen for a short time, but it's worth seeing. Oh, and the rest of the movie is pretty good, too, I guess.

He was hilarious and brilliant in Once Upon a Time in Mexico. There's a scene with him and Danny Trejo that tears streaming down my face from laughing. I cannot wait for that DVD.

Danny Trejo was also excellent in that movie. He doesn't get a lot of roles outside the "thug" but he's been a real activist and seems like a great person.
Anyways, if anyone HASN'T seen Once Upon a Time in Mexico, please, DO IT NOW.

Danny Trejo is indeed the man. I would love to see him in non-Robert Rodriguez movies. That shot of him pointing that gun and grinning from ear to ear was hysterical.
