She is the zombie raising, ex-catholic, vampire killing/loving star of a series of fantasy/horror/romance novels by Laurell Hamilton.

Laurell Hamilton is an author who lives in my home town of St. Louis. Indeed, Anita Blake lives in a fictional St. Louis.

Last weekend I went to the open house given by the local Wolf Sanctuary. St. Louis has one of the worlds best Canine Sanctuaries. Every year the open the doors for people to come in, look around, and play with some dogs that are visiting (dog sled rides, police dog demonstrations, etc.)

They also do a Silent Auction, where you walk by and pledge a donation for items. If your pledge is the highest at the end of the day, its yours.

Ms. Hamilton donated a basket of merchandise including a signed copy of one of her books. I put a bid in early, figuring I would be out bid by the end of the day.

I wasn't.

Signed copy of Blue Moon. "Richard's (the werewolf in questions) chew toy" Night shirt. (I need to find a woman who knows a Richard.) Coffee mug that proclaims, "I kill vampiers, I don't date them.....Usually.....Sometimes....@#$@#$@#$@#" and other goodies.

Score!

Congratulations!

I had heard about them but never read any until a thread here started talking about them. Then I burned through them all in two weeks. Lots of fun. I love the coffee cup...

I enjoyed most of the Hamilton's Anita Blake books...however, some of the later ones got a little too kinky. I was relieved when she got a bit more back to basics with the last couple.

My biggest regret, I've already read the book. Its only use is to look good in my book collection.

I was introduced to the Anita Blake series by my sweet, demure, devoutly-Catholic friend Amy. I love the books and I see Amy in a very, very different light now. [Wink]

That is super cool, Dan.

Guilty. Literally.

I look at the Anita Blake novels as one of my truly "guilty pleasures." My girlfriend Diane is a little perturbed that the character I relate to the most in the books is Edward. I think she stopped processing once she heard the words "sociopathic killer."

Maybe if she read the books she'd feel better about it? And me?

Edited to add: Really great cup! That alone would make the whole thing worth it.
