I want to download AIM. My computer has javascripts disabled. [Frown] Does anyone know how to allow javascripts so I can download it, then disable javascripts again, and not screw anything up in the process?

Please help me!
*bursts into tears*

tools -> internet options.

Click on security.
Click on customer level.
scroll down.
enable active scripting (it's under scripting)
click ok.
click ok.
do what you need to.
repeat steps, only this time changing active scripting back to it's previous setting.
edit: you may need to close and reopen internet explorer after changing that setting.

The problem is more likely cookies. To fix that, go into customer level, find the two cookies settings, and enable them both, and everything else is the same.

edit: hehe, customer level. You can tell I'm at work.

Yep, tools -> internet options. Security. Custom level. Scroll down a bit to the cookies section, there are two settings. Enable both. Click ok twice. To undo, do the same thing, but change the settings back to how they were before.

Hey fugu, you work at convergys, right? I do too, but at out location we can't look at any webpages other than the ones we need to do tech support.

What project are you working on?

I'm on SBC (DSL tech support).

Which project are you on? Oh, if you want internet options, press f1, then click options and choose internet options from the list. If no other way, you can set your homepage to whatever page you want to go to. This is assuming they lock down the computers the same way at your location.

BTW, how far in advance do you get your schedules? We get ours about 4 days in advance, and we're scheduled out of Houston so changes are hard to get.

tools -> internet options
click on privacy
move the slider to accept all cookies (lowest setting)
click ok
close and reopen internet explorer
attempt to download
after that, move slider back to previous position.

It's working better, but it still says cookies are disabled. :shrugs:

Hard to accept more cookies than all of them . . . did you close and then reopen?

If it's still having problems, it could be a spyware/adware problem.

I'm doing comcast cable internet support. We get our schedules about 3 weeks in advance, which is really cool, because it allows people to do a lot of shift-trading.

We're not locked out of surfing the net, because we use certain pages as references for certain troubleshooting issues. But if you're ever caught looking at a page that has nothing to do with the job, you can get fired, depending on who cathces you.

Yeah, about the only reason we get fired on this project is for tardiness, absence, or being downright rude/disconnecting.

They have a hard time keeping people employed, because 80% of the people are overqualified. Turnover rate is about 180%.

Totally. Most of the people I know are only working at Convergys while looking for another job. These are guys with degrees in Computer Sciences and Engineering, forced to help people powercycle their modems. I think the worst thing about the job is the weekly report cards. I don't even look at them anymore, because they're based on such stupid things, like average hold-time.

I'm only working there because of the awesome tuition reimbursement, and the decent benefits. These are big bonuses for a poor student.

Our report cards are only bimonthly, if that. We only have two quality guys, and umpteen gazillion techs on the floor.

SBC is mass firing a lot of their own tech support, so they're expanding the outsourced tech support, ie me.

I guess our team leads are just more lenient -- likely due to being a larger project, and thus more apathetic.

Heh, yeah, I wish I was somewhere else. But right now this is where I have the experience to get hired at, and the pay isn't awful (especially considering the benefits).
