Not necessarily in that order.

OHHHHHHHH! [Blushing] "Jatraqueros," when pronounced properly (with a j like an h), sounds like "Hat-Rack-ueros"!!! This took me two weeks to divine. Mensa will have my card for this.

Today is moving day! (And in an excessively meaningless coincidence, also my birthday.)

[Party]

So anyway, here i am VERRRRRY reluctantly about to cut off my links with the net and prepare my desk for moving .... i am slugging coffee out of a thermos lid because i've packed all the *#@ cups! ... I have two trips to make today with a 10-ft U-Haul truck, and then tomorrow to get unpacked and settled (well, you know - who doesn't still have a box or two left to unpack a year after moving? I'm moving boxes in this move that were orginally packed two moves ago - hope those dinosaur eggs haven't hatched!) ..... and I won't be back here (ahem, what's so important about 'here'?) until Monday noon at the soonest! [Frown]

This is not a rant - a little bit of a whine - it's not like I need a {()} (I know where to go for those - and besides, I haven't brushed my teeth yet) - but omigosh, it is hard to pull the plug!

Know what I mean? Ciao!

Happy Birthday!
And good luck with the whole moving thing! I hate moving, but the unpacking is torture. And finding your coffee cups. And acclimating the cat. And the kids can't find their YuGiOh cards. Ack, I really hate moving.
We're here when you're there(?) and ready to vent.

Actually it's more like hat-rack-eros. There's no kw sound from a q in spanish.

Two weeks? I've been here two months and I still didn't notice until you said that! [Blushing] [ROFL] I blame it all on the stress.

And don't you love the fact that you actually DID have the nerve to pull the plug, but you KNOW that we're all sitting here saying things like "good luck!" and "moving sucks!", and you have this urge to plug your computer in and sit it down on the very FLOOR, just so you can check this thread that you started?! Yeah, I know the feeling.

Anyway, good luck. Moving sucks. [Wink] We'll be glad when you return. [Big Grin]

PS I pronounce "Jatraquero" with the soft "j" sound because I speak portuguese...so it doesn't make any sense when I say it in my head. [Smile]

Yeah, trust me to completely miss the j/h thing. What's it been now? six months? [Wall Bash] Spot the brain cell.

Yay! I think... I am re-wired. Mostly. Today was sort of hiccuppy. And the break from ether-reality was just long enough for me to have felt the merest twinges of the allure that an utterly un-wired life might have. You know, the way things were back before 1984, when I first stood at the counter of a store (what kind of store must this have been? I have no recollection) and played with MacPaint on a Mac for the Very First Time - for about an hour. Not too much longer after that I had my first Compuserve account, an email address... and our fates were written in glowing electrons on the wall....

Remember when all you could reliably search for on the Web was comp sci topics and maybe a smattering of other sciences (vulcanology, astronomy... any of the sciences that especially benefitted from global collaboration)? Remember the first time you did a search on Yahoo for something really non-Nettish (like, what kind of guitar to buy for a beginner, or how to macrame, or the dates that Henry V reigned) - and actually found the answer? That must have started to happen around '91, '92 .... that's when I think I knew this was for real.

Others had earlier, profound experiences with on-line communities. This one, Jatraqueros, feels like a worthy descendant of the best of them. All hail [Hail]

Okay, I kind of riffed there a bit... My move went amazingly smoothly .... I had a happy little birthday fete with two of my daughters, eating mediocre take-out chinese and sitting on the floor of my new place .... and I return here today and see these nice thoughts and well-wishing... Thanks Narnia, Jaxonn, Sharpie, and Raia. Especially Sharpie, whom I have coaxed out of lurk mode, but who will now make it even harder for me to pass her in post count. [Kiss]
