So my phone has been cut off, back in the middle of October.
I thought I had until the 22nd until they cut off my net. I was wrong.
So now I have a cable modem even though that is not very logical to have no phone and to have the internet, but who cares?

I wondered where you had gotten to. I figured you were just working hard.

How goes the job, BTW?

And welcome back. [Smile]

Yeah! *happy*
I was working in dairy. Now they are moving me to bagging.
I am not sure if I am happy about that as I am so terrible at bagging groceries and I'll be there for hours putting groceries into bags for about 5 hours which will be utterly boring.
And I need to make more money. -_-.

As someone who has had my groceries bagged by both excellent baggers and awful ones, would you like a few pointers? [Smile]

Ok, as I know nothing about bagging whatsoever. When I bag it looks stupid.

Cool. [Smile] Ok, if you forget everything else, remember this: perishables belong TOGETHER. Never scatter them throughout the various bags at random. If you do this one thing, you will be a vast improvement on many of the baggers I've had.

Bagging is an art. The goal is to get the groceries in as few bags as possible BUT not make any of the bags too heavy or bulky.

To that end, try to get heavy, non-crushable items in the bottom of each bag (cans and such) -- but not too many to a bag. Light and/or crushable items go on top. Watch out for squishables like tomatoes! And fragiles like eggs.

Never put two gallons of milk in the same bag. One with some small perishables is much better.

To keep it from being boring, view this as a challenge -- how marvelously can you bag each customer's groceries.

rivka, [Hail]

i have no idea what anyone's talking about, but i love that there's someone out there that recognizes that bagging is, indeed, an art form.

and syn, get a cell phone. there is no need to have a land line, especially if you live alone and have a cable modem. plus, you don't actually have to sign up on the do not call list. automatic caller id. so many advantages. anyway, welcome back.

How much do cell phone services cost?
I hate phones so much, but if I want a second job or a better job in the future I'll have to get one.

Synesthesia, welcome back! Indeed, you were missed.

I thought of a question that I had for you the day after I found out that you would be absent for awhile. Now that you are here, of course, I can no longer remember said question.

Eh...

Welcome back still! [Smile]

You can go with a prepaid cell phone service for as little as $20 every 3 months.

If you're going to go with prepaid, I prefer AT&T's Free2Go. Minimum is $10; time is good for 45 days (but rolls over if you add time before your time expires).

Yeah, but unless you purchase at least $20 at a time your rates are so high as to make anything more than an extreme minimum of calling infeasible. I didn't know about the rolling over thing, though. So, if I buy $10 of airtime, don't use any, then 44 days later buy another $10 of airtime, 25 days later (assuming I haven't used any) I'll have $20 of airtime? Can airtime roll over more than once?

I was wondering how your job was going just yesterday!

If you have a cable modem, take a look at Vonage. It a phone service that goes over the Internet, but you pick up your phone to place a call just like normal. You wouldn't know it wasn't a regular phone. And they email your voicemail to you as attached WAVs! Neat! $25 a month for unlimited local and 500 minutes of long distance.

(and if you use my referral, you get a free month. as do I!)

Syn!
Very glad to hear you are getting back on your feet now, one baby step at a time. It might not be the perfect job, but at least it gives you something structured day to day to chase the blues away.

Hang in there and I will pray a new opportunity will come your way with even greater challenges.

Actually, fugu, if you buy $20 at a time, you get the same rate as if you buy $10. If you buy $25, OTOH, you start getting a decent rate. That's what I do. I figure $25 about every 45 days is pretty good for cell service.

As for rollover, it seems to reset the clock completely, as far as I've been able to tell. [Dont Know] My excess balance always rolls over.
