I had an incredible night with Hobbes and Celia.

First, we met at an Indian restaurant. I learned how truly evil Celia is, and I met her Henchman. He aids and abets her evil, even to the point of giving her further evil ideas. Hobbes, on the other hand, is sweetness and light. He admirably fends off Celia's negative influence, yet is drawn to her like beetles to a zapper. The food was quite good, and we shared it all around. I didn't like the okra dish very much, but the lamb in gravy with herbs was lovely, the chicken was spicy, and the cheese stuff was great.

After that, we went to the concert by the Kronos Quartet. It was weird and cool at the same time. The music was made up of space sounds (recorded by satellites from plasma waves and planets), synthesized sounds, the string quartet, and a choir. The space sounds were both beautiful and unsettling. Along with the music, lights and a video presentation became an integral part of the performance. Some of this I found distracting, while other images were mesmerizing or seemed to tell a story.

At the end of the concert, people were invited to stay for a discussion. I made Hobbes and Celia sit up front with me. I asked questions and made comments like the following:

"What was the gyroscope sequence all about? I found it very frustrating."

"How is the advent of more visual-centered learning and entertainment affecting music and musical performance as it evolves?"

The last comment (actually phrased much more clumsily and with background information) intrigued the leader of the group. When they closed the discussion, he sat down next to me to discuss it more. I felt like I was soooo cool. He invited me to email him because he was intrigued that the concert would prompt me to have such thoughts.

I made Celia take us into the night so we could go stargazing. It was quite warm for November. She took us to a grassy field near the airport and an engineering building far away from the main campus. We looked into the clear night sky and talked. We lay prone upon the ground, our conversations flitting from stars to myth to Hatrack gossip. When we were finished with our experience, we had hot cocoa in a nice little coffeehouse.

Thank you, Celia and Hobbes, for a very lovely evening.

That sounds like a great evening. I've always liked the Kronos Quartet, and it would be pretty difficult to beat the company.

That's sweet!?

Does the Kronos Quartet still do Purple Haze? They are incredible. Nearly anyone with ears should go see them.

For those of you wondering, Jenny is great! [Big Grin] After the concert (as Jenny said) we decided that since it was a space concert we should go look at the stars, so of course eventually we found an open field that was pretty dark. What Jenny didn't tell you is that the first thing she spotted to go star gazing off of was a balcony on a fraternity house. So of course she promptly tried to get the guys at the fraternity to let us in and onto the balcony. It was great, even if they did say that the balcony wasn't up to code and couldn't hold wieght. [Cool]

I had a great time last night, thanks for coming Jenny! [Smile]

I don't know if I like the idea of my Hobbes gazing at stars with other women.

Would it help if they were both married?

But you're so cute you might seduce them away from their husbands.

Especially that celia. She's easily led.

Hey - masquerading as Annie is not cool.

Annie doesn't mind that her Hobbes goes stargazing because she trusts him. So there. [Razz]

Would it help to know that Hobbes is obviously in love with Annie? He had that sweet little smile and glazed over eyes whenever he spoke of her. Now, Celia is indeed evil, but she is more scary than seductive.

You couldn't have asked for better first-met friends than Celia and Hobbes.

I'm starting to think that zgator is the ultimate stealth version of Pat and Jon Boy.

In his defense, though, he never makes any attempt to actually hide his true identity. He's just so quiet about the whole thing that people tend not to think of him as someone with loads of alter-egos.

Kronos Quartet did Requiem for a Dream. Great stuff. Scares me just listening to the music.

This is celia's way of saying that she doesn't like you, Hobbes.

I really like the use of the word "ultimate" there. But I think you're mistaken.

Haven't you ever considered the possibility that I in fact *do* have my own forum, but that only the most elite are invited to join?

Hoi poloi need not apply.
