Cat in the Hat. Oh, yeah, two points, everyone thinks this movie is awful.

Of course, I haven't seen this movie, so to speak. But I do want to hear your opinions on it, because on imdb people are destroying it. Apparently it's pretty offensive. Here's a quote from one poster on the offensiveness:

quote:
I saw it last night and my manager and I thought the movie was very offensive. They implied so many dirty meanings that anyone over the age of 10 would understand right away. Some things parents should know before bringing their kids...they bleep out the B-word, they use an acronom that spells out the S-word, stops short of saying ass, there is a rave scene, and The Cat refers to a garden utensil as a "dirty hoe" (then winks becasue he knows it's WRONG TO SAY IN A KID'S MOVIE!). This movie should not be rated PG it is at the shallow end of PG-13 rating.
Here's the link to the imdb posting. As of right now it's got a 2.9 out of 10.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0312528/board/nest/4374175
quote:

Historians have come to a general consensus about which creations constitute the pinnacle of human creative achievement: Michelangelo's David, Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Shakespeare's Hamlet. Few of us are fortunate enough to live in a time where an artist finally masters his medium and creates a work of such inspiring, enduring brilliance that its light shines across the ages. Now, however, ours will be remembered as the age when film finally found its champion. The debate which once raged about the relative merits of Citizen Kane vs. Casablanca can now fall silent: As the end of the twentieth century nears, The Cat in the Hat has achieved cinematic perfection.

As The Cat, Mike Myers delivers an interpretation of mentally-challenged existence that is so powerful that actors across the country will likely observe a moment of awestruck silence when Myers accepts his Academy Award for Best Actor in March. Bo Welch is sure to get the nod as Best Director for evolving the medium to unprecedented levels .

In fact "The Cat In The Hat" is so stirring, it was as if director Bo Welch had reached into my body and poured a little bit of wonder into my soul. His masterful skills in telling this epic of survival and hope reduced the audience to stunned silence; many, including this reviewer, wept openly.

I think I'm gonna take that as a compliment on my sense of humor rather than a huge insult regarding my taste in movies. [Smile]

If that's how you meant it, I'm glad I entertain you. I really am trying, no matter how lame I come off.

If not...screw you. I'll always have Ralphie. And Lalo. Then again, Lalo'll compliment anything with three legs and a heartbeat. (Actually, I saw a picture of him on a piano stool that leads me to believe that the heartbeat is optional.)

I would certainly hope that it was a reference to your masterful wielding of the Sword of Saracasm.

Unfortunately, the quote from that website was actually plagarism - the author of that "review" of the movie copied it from another movie and changed the name, creating a sarcasm while simultaneously commiting a theft.

That wasn't known at the time, however, so it stands as a worthy compliment.

I'm just really annoyed by the sheer number of Cat in the Hat tie-in commercials on TV. Before it was released, I really wanted to see the movie. Since, however, my wife and I have decided we're just going to wait a year or so until it comes on HBO.

It just reeks of sellout... How much electricity could be generated off of Dr. Seuss's body spinning in his grave?

13% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Well, I guess this won't be a part of my budget.

Now I've got to go find a movie to watch with my friend who just got her wisdom teeth taken out. Perhaps my new TTT.EE?

The cup is 13% full - or 6% if you split the difference in the Rotten Tomatoes ratings between Gigli and The Cat in the Hat.

Thanks to Ben and Jen, the new flick is probably saved from being ranked as the worst stinker of the year. Gigli's ranking was 7%. It's a low bar to beat.
