I honstly have no idea why the titled the movie Cheeper by the Dozen, the only thing it has in common with the book is that it's about a family with 12 kids.

The movie itself could have been worse (could also have been better), it had its moments but I went in expecting something of a plot and got instead a "single Dad with tons of kids" gag.

My rating: Not worth it.

You didn't get snowman peeps for Christmas? I get them for almost every holiday now, snowmen for Christmas, hearts (or something) for Valentines day, regular ones for Easter...

They have snowman peeps?!

The _book_ Cheaper by the Dozen is about a thousand times better than the movie.

Does the movie have ANYTHING in common with the book, other than the title? I gathered not from the ads, which disappointed me. I would be thrilled if they actually DID make a movie of the book, Morse code messages and all! [Big Grin]

It's not like the book at all. And I think in the book, they decided from the beginning that they wanted twelve children...it wasn't an accident.

I want to see a movie of the book, too.

Yup, they planned on 12 during their honeymoon -- it was more efficient! [Big Grin]

Why did they have to destroy the book?

And why did they have to put HILARY DUFF and ASHTON KUTCHER in it?! [Grumble]

Best line I have ever heard from Ashton (as best I can remember): "...what if next time, it's my face? I'm not gonna kid myself - I'm not that good of an actor! This face is the moneymaker!"

Now I'm confused. Does the movie CLAIM to be based on the book?

No. Apparently, it claims to be based on a tv series that was based on the book.

Or something.

There was a TV series based on the book? Huh, never knew that.

Hmm, looks like there WAS a 1950 movie, and the sequel in 1952. With Myrna Loy! I'm going to have to get my hands on those. [Smile]

I liked the movie. It was nothing like the book, but if you take it on its own merits, it wasn't bad.

Of course, I'll like almost anything with Steve Martin in it, and I've never seen anything so pretty in my life as Tom Welling. On the small screen, he does nothing for me, but on the big screen, half the theatre was falling out of their seats whenever he appeared.

Oh, pretty.

But then there was Ashton Kutcher. I hate Ashton Kutcher. AND Hilary Duff. [Mad]

Ok, I hate Hilary Duff with an enormous vengance. I love Tom Welling, because Smallville rocks! So they equal out, I like Steve Martin, Bonny Hunt, and Ashton Kutcher. So overall I liked it. I thought it wasn't great but funny enough.

And another reason Smallville is great, is because Kristen Kreuk is soooooo hot. *Drools*

The original movie had some fine actors in it. Clifton Webb as the father and the amazing Myrna Loy as the mother. She reprised her role in the sequel (Belles on Their Toes).

The books & original movies are the story of the Gilbreath family. Frank and Lillian were among the first "efficiency experts." Frank developed the method known as Time and Motion studies which, though now simplified itself, is still used today.

The books were written by their daughter Ernestine, mainly, with co-author credit to the eldest son. Though the movies are really narrated in Ernestine's voice, so I figure she wrote them mainly.

The books and the earlier movies are real treasures. Even though I like Steve Martin a lot, I'm afraid I have no desire to see this new thing with the same name.

Why not remake the original if you're going to spend all that money? It could've been done well. Instead, they thinned the plot out (based on a TV show, indeed) and just made it into a gag.

Oh well.

I recommend going out and buying the original movies. Classics!
