I started using outlook express and WHAM...I get 7 spams a day. I don't see where I can mark something as Spam. I don't know if using a free spam filter like lockspam or spampal is worth it.

Does anyone know how to configure my email to stop spam or any free anti-spam software?

Maybe I will go back to Yahoo--at least I would be able to flag mail to go into my bulk folder. Maybe I should start using cashette.

When I first started using Thunderbird, it's junk filter did a great job.

Lately, however, I've been getting tons of spam. I guess they've figured out how to get around Thunderbird's junk mail filters.

Full version Outlook 2003 (instead of Outlook Express) should help you with this. You might look into it.

Seven spam a day, eh? *wry, rueful laugh* Oh, that would be nice. That's what usually makes it through my spam filter, and my spam filter is harsh. I think I filter out about 350 spam a day.

I've never had ANY spam get through my gmail spam filter. Either the spammers haven't figured out how to get through yet, or else google rules!

My brother, as of two years ago, filtered out 500 a day. He's probably at double or more of that now. (Alpha geek.) Me, I was doing pretty good at a dozen a day, or thereabouts, for the last year. All of a sudden, a couple of days ago, it quadrupled over night. Damn those filthy spammers! Die, spammer, die!

Gmail is pretty good aobut spam. I've had an account there for about 6 months now, and no spam at all.

If I keep getting spam from the same address, is there anyway to identify it as spam on outlook express?

Yes.

1. Click on "Tools"
2. Click on "Message Rules"
3. Click on "Mail"

The rest is pretty self-explanatory.

I have multiple accounts. I use the budweiser account for stuff that I know is going to be followed by unrelated spam a few days later. Since I only use it now and then I have the best filter. I filter to trash all e-mails being sent to that budweiser account. Since nothing important ever gets sent there I don't worry about missing an e-mail.

On Yahoo! I ran into trouble when I got 6 MB (at least) per 3-4 hours, despite me emptying it 6-7 times a day.

So I now use Gmail.

But the key to solving the problem is within the words "Outlook Express".

That explains why TomD never replies to my emails. [Grumble]
