I've had a lot on my plate lately, so I haven't been on Hatrack all that much. It's great (!!!!) to see Belle and Olivet and others posting again. [Smile] Let's see, where to begin. Thomas is a lot more mobile now...he's getting very good at holding himself up, loves to be standing. He just cut his first tooth (teeth actually, 2 at once). He is also a veteran flyer, we went to North Carolina for Christmas (pictures forthcoming).

On the other hand, my brother recently had a stroke. He's 31...woke up one morning numb on his left side. It went away, then came back. Apparently he has a tiny hole in his heart, which has been causing small strokes for a long time (he's had tingling in his fingers before, but not enough to be worrisome). He tires easily, and has trouble using his left hand. It was extremely frustrating for him, as he hates being idle. He goes Friday to see the heart doctor about fixing it. He's been going through a lot of physical therapy, trying to get in shape for the surgery. It's also brought up some other issues, namely his biological father (he's my half-brother). He used to beat my mom, so she left him, and eventually married my dad. Apparently, he had strokes as early as 25, so there was talk of contacting him to find out what caused them, assuming he was still around. I can't imagine my mom having to make contact with the <expletive deleted> again.

I guess that's all...thanks for reading, I'm glad to have a place where I can ramble like this. [Wink]

hey, nice to see you back!

hmm, i hope things go well for your brother.
my best friend's significant other (we were all in seventh grade classes together - they started dating and have remained together ever since!) has to have open heart surgery as soon as possible; he has a hole in his heart, too.
he's only twenty three :/

i am praying over a lot of heartbeats right now.

Hey big blue bug! Good to hear from you, was wondering how your larva was doing.

As to your brother--my friend Bob (not _Scopatz) started having strokes when he was in his early thirties, but through the Miracle of Modern Medicine, and an operation, he has been able to resume his life. Of course, he had to make changes in his diet and stuff (but he still smokes! [Mad] ), but he's almost fifty now, and doing very well. I am sending my good wishes your brother's way.

Hey Tick! Good to see you back.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother. My sister-in-law had a stroke when she was 7; they think she was born with a blood clot in her brain. I hope everything turns out OK for him.

Heya Tick! Glad to hear about Thomas; how is your wife doing? I'm sure you two are spectacular parents. [Smile]

I hope your brother gets taken care of as uncomplicatedly as possible. It sucks that your mom has to deal with that jerk again, but hopefully he'll at least be informative.

*hugs Tick and Arthur and Ticklet*

So far, so good. We should know more this weekend, perhaps a date for his surgery. He's been working on his golf game (gripping the golf club has been a good workout for his weakened left hand) and waiting for Survivor to start again.

As for Thomas, he's the greatest. We had a nightmare flight down to North Carolina (had to be at the airport at 5am, didn't get in there until 6 at night) but he handled it a lot better than most of us. What a great kid. [Smile]

I will add your brother to my prayer list. I really hope everything turns out fine and he can return to a normal life.

I don't understand, however, the comment about your mom having to deal with this ex again. If the brother is 31, isn't he able to contact the guy without having to go through his mom? But of course, I don't know the whole story..

Anyway, I will be praying it all works out for everyone concerned.

He was laying in the hospital bed at the time they were trying to make contact, so she was taking care of it. Scott never knew his Dad, my oldest brother did, but their father has never made any contact with either one since I was very small. We actually have no way of getting in contact (my cousin the skip tracer is working on that). I certainly don't want my brother to be stressed out by something like this, at least not until the hole is repaired.
