Okay...my old kitchen table & chairs had to go. Ikea specials, 10 years old, and not treated too well over that time period.
So...I went to a nearby town noted for its antique stores. I found something reasonable and NOT antique. Anyone familiar with the "waterfall" style of furniture? It's kind of art deco, kind of modern looking.
Anyway, found this cool blonde table & chairs (maple I think) that is built like the rock of Gibralter (but without all the seagull poop).
It has these cool legs that are shaped in arch from one side of the table to the other. It has drop leaves on either end, and three leaves that can go in the middle. And six matching chairs.
Really, it was meant for a dining room, but folded up, it goes great in the kitchen.
And then, tonight, I finally finished my entertainment center layout. I had two small speakers (A&R bookshelf speakers) that I mounted to some metal brackets I put on the wall. These now face you as you sit on the couch, with the other floor speakers behind you. And the movie screen sits between the two mounted wall speakers.
Sounds great if get the right balance. I was watching tennis with all 4 speakers going. It was like the ball was going back and forth in my living room!!!
And I don't even have surround sound.
Maybe I'll get that someday.
But the whole idea was to do something cool without spending too much. I already owned all of the components for this system except the projector, which I got a decent price on.
So...while it wasn't exactly free, it was cheap, and it looks great!!!
<siren call>
<come eat on my new kitchen table>
<come enjoy a big screen movie in 4 speaker stereo that may or may not work like surround sound>
We'll have fun...
