Ok, on the advice of jatraqueros I bought Quicken Deluxe 2004. One of the advertisments is that you will be able to auto update your finances to quicken.com and be able to acess them from anywhere via this magic "one step update". The thing is the "one step update" to quicken.com only updates my investment portfolio and not my checking accounts or loans.

Any of you quicken gurus out there know what the problem is? And Quicken's tech support sucks!

Incidentally, otherwise I like the software. It is just bugging me that I can't get it to do what it claims it can do!

Hmmm....

Mine updates on quicken.com just fine (I don't have a portfolio -- only regular bank accounts). But I'm at work so I will have to wait until I get home to see if I can maybe figure out why it is doing that to you.

The only reason I like that feature is so that if my home hard drive ever fries, I can probably re-download all my information from quicken.

Are you sure your bank is in fact compatible with Quicken's services? Not all are.

it isn't downloading from the bank. I have all of that set up. It is the download from my home computers Quicken program to the quicken.com website that is the problem. I was planning on mainly using it for backup as well but if it isn't working there isn't any point!

I'd appreciate anything you can come up with farmgirl. I'm going to leave work now and brave the traffic.

Okay, AJ, I'm home.
I'm running Quicken 2003, so there might be slight differences.

The first things I would figure out is if, for sure, you have it set to update ALL your accounts to quicken.com

It looks like when you are in Quicken, and you choose that "one step update", and enter your vault PIN number -- then it brings up that screen that says what it is going to update. On mine, it gives the options of "update my portfolio", "update my banking accounts" and "update my reminders"

Above that there is a small hyperlink that says "Select Quicken.com data to update" and clicking on that link takes me to another window which has an "accounts" tab where I can choose which accounts I want it to upload.

Start by checking that. If that is not it, let me know.

Also, do you have your bank accounts and your portfolio all in ONE quicken file? If it is split into two different data files, that will be a problem.

In mine (doing this from memory because I'm not at a home computer)
once you put in your PIN vault number a box comes up with a bunch of boxes to check including "update quicken.com" which I've checked and unchecked repeatedly to no avail. I'm going to look for an additional hyperlink though and see if that is my problem.

Update. I tried everything possible and it still wasn't updating my personal quicken.com web page correctly. But, I think the three e-mails I sent in to the quicken company to complain, and make them aware of the situation paid off.

A new update of the software became available last night, and I downloaded and installed it it. Now everything is correct on Quicken.com and updated as of yesterday. So I'm pretty convinced it was some sort of bug in the programming and not me that was the problem!

Yeah!

Glad you got that worked out!

I might mention that new update to our Internet Banking department -- because they answer customer calls from people using Quicken or Money to connect to us..

The update is Quicken 2004 "version 5" The old one I had was "version 4"

I'm guessing the software you actually buy in the package is "version 1". In the old days when downloads weren't as easy, everyone had to debug software much more before marketing! It autochecks for updates if you are connected to the internet, but what if something was buggy and you didn't have internet access? Kinda makes me feel like a guinea pig.
