We just found out what region in Russia we are going to get our new kids.

The region is Astrakhan, 900 miles SE of Moscow, right on the Volga, and bordering Khazikstan.

Anyone else know anything about his region?

Bad news, its too far away from Poland to make a special Kama side trip. [pout]

Hey Dan,

I tried searching under "astrakhan" under google and the website results were less than spectacular.

But...

Clicking the images folder yielded some really neat results that might be more meaningful than written website material.

And congrats, BTW. I'm happy for you.

Dan--

Best of luck in Russia.

Am I the only one who thinks Astrakhan is a kick-butt fantasy name?

I'm thinking an olde fortress of malevolent power.

Scott,

I'm just guessing here, but I'm thinking that's not the image of the "country of origin" that Dan will want to go with when he and his wife educate their kids about their heritage.

But then again, it's Dan, so I could be wrong. [Wink]

From what I could tell of its history, the region was an Old Fortress created by an expansionist Russian Empire to contral the Volga River Valley.

The only thing missing is the fantasy element.

Hey, if people from Astrakhan look like people from Kazakhstan you might have some cool looking babies. [Smile] I used to wonder if there were people on the border of Asia and Europe who looked like a mix of both, and then I saw a couple of Kazakhs once and found out there are. [Big Grin]

Furthermore, "from Archangel to Astrakhan..." has always been my favorite Churchill line. As you will observe I have nothing of value to add to this conversation. But congratulation, Dan!
