Well, I flew back to stay with my family for the week, and while I'm here, I thought I should see my regular doctor. Y'see, I spent a night in the emergency room two or three weeks ago because I just couldn't stop vomiting. They got me nice and doped up, and when the pain still didn't go away, they gave me the option of going to a surgeon or having more drugs injected into my system. I chose the drugs. Basically, the tests didn't show them what was wrong, so they gave me various injections until I was too doped up to feel anything and/or puke, then they sent me home with prescriptions for narcotic painkillers and things to keep my muscles from cramping up.

Well, I still haven't quite recovered, so I thought I should get everything checked out again. My doctor looked at me and gave me a script for an ultrasound. [Frown] She thinks there might be something wrong with my gallbladder. Apparently, my father had to have gallbladder surgery when he was younger.

So I'm going tomorrow morning to have the test done. Prayers and such would be greatly appreciated.

You have my prayers, but I must admit I'm disappointed. I thought you were going to mention the girly king of Bacchus this year. [Wink] That's one of the funniest AIM conversations I've had in a while

BTW, is your dad generally dense or is this a special case?

Olivet: My dad is usually really paranoid about that kind of thing. In this case, though, he told my mom that he was surprised at how tough I've been, since I guess he remembers the pain from when he went through his gallbladder thing.

I'm not supposed to eat until the test. [Frown] Or drink anything. I'm scared.

Aww, why are you scared?!

Your doctor is simply going by your symptoms and guessing gallbladder. She has a fairly good chance of being wrong. And even if it IS gallbladder, they take them out very, very easily in surgery. When my 70+ year old grandma had hers out, they kicked her out of the recovery room bed after an hour and had her finish recovering in a chair (critical bed shortage I can only assume) and they sent her home by suppertime. She didn't even need any pain meds. Gallbladder removals are a breeze most of the time these days.

Sugery really scares me. I haven't even had my wisdom teeth out yet. [Frown] And if it's not my gallbladder, she said it's probably some kind of stress-related thing, which means that I doubt it'll get better until after this semester. *frets*

This is EASIER than wisdom teeth, since you'll be fast asleep. Did anyone give you any medications to try? Heartburn meds? Antinausea meds?

Well, the ER shot me full of muscle relaxants and painkillers. My doctor gave me some kind of acid reflux/ulcer medication, but she still thinks this ultrasound thing is necessary, which bugs me a lot. Plus, she insists that I use this medication for at least a month.

Yep, she's probably right about needing both the med and the test. The ultrasound is easy and won't hurt a bit, you should make the tech let you watch the monitor screen while she does the ultrasound. It's a cool test. Act interested and she might explain to you what you are seeing on the screen.

Well, hooray. My gallbladder is perfect. [Big Grin]

But my doctor ordered my entire abdomen to be looked at, so I have to wait for those results. But they said not to worry about having surgery or anything.

[Party]

In the meantime, I got to see what kidneys and livers and spleens look like!
