My sister had a baby yesterday, and they are not telling the name (even though they have written it on the birth certificate). I could see the dad naming the baby "Trogdor" but I don't see my sister going for it. Does anyone care to wager? (The grand prize is R-E-S-P-E-C-T)

Well, it's just a big mystery. Though the husband did call the kid "youngster bob". So maybe Robert.
I really tiptoed around the subject with my sister, we haven't even gone through the "who do you hate and would not want to think of when you see your child" conversation.
I remember this guy saying "you think of yourself as a pretty nice person until it comes time to name a baby and you realize how many people you really don't like".
So, the couple is LDS. I had a bit of acrimony over the naming of our youngest, and I don't know if that's what put them off. Probably.
Current LDS church leaders: Gordon Thomas James Boyd Neal Dallin Russell (already a cousin) Henry Richard (already a cousin) Robert (Hmmm...) Joseph Jeffrey Duh, can't think of any others.

Are they Utah Mormons? Don't they,like, sometimes mix'n'match wierd names, like Josediah, or Abinatthew?

Poor, poor child who gets saddled with a name like Mormon or Amos. Little do his parents realize that they're creating a potential butt of every joke. Kids with weird names like that always seem to have complexes. Why in the world would you give your kid a name that makes the whole class giggle when the teacher reads it? Blech.

Especially Mahonri Moriancomer. Not only is it strange, but it was so long it wasn't even included in the Book of Mormon.
Seriously though, if you give an odd Mormon name, you're pretty much saying they will never live outside of Utah. I mean, I'm sure THEY are okay with that, but come on, the kid's gotta have his agency...
Jared is nice, and so is Robert. Were you serious about Habakuk? Poor kid.

I think it's a good idea not to tell the name before the baby is born, because otherwise you get people saying, "Oh, I hate that name! You should call it x instead!" <laughs> Once the name has been officially given, then they usually don't do that so much.
My brother-in-law always threatened all sorts of dire names in advance for a joke (e.g. "Attilla Conan Woodruff", "Thrasher Mullane Woodruff") but ended up naming the children perfectly normal and good things in the end. Posts: 2843 | Registered: A Long Time Ago!

:bump: ak, the baby is born. They are withholding the name until the Blessing, which is supposed to be this weekend I'm excited.
Funny that Jared was mentioned. That's the dad's name. He did give us a tease that if we aren't listening carefully, we might think he said "Melchezidek" (sp?) but I think it was joshing around.
The Mormon name phenomenon seems to be worse for girls than boys, I think mainly because of the teasing thing, plus there are hundreds more names for boys than girls in the bible. Though Book of Mormon names are still weird for boys and there are only 3 for girls. My theory on Mormons and weird names is that most folks have like 50 first cousins. That's how we wound up with Hannah. I want to start a movement to not worry about the names of first cousins. Otherwise we would have gone with Rebecca or Annie.
I about spit during the Oscars when I found out Renee Zellwegger's character from "Cold Mountain" was named Ruby. (because her character in "Chicago" was Roxie). Roxie, Renee, and Ruby were the three names my husband shot down the day we found out she would be a girl. And my daughter could be a baby Renee Zellwegger. She's got the creamy skin, twinkly eyes, and she looks cute chubby.

Clue 1: The first and second names contain the following letters (with 2 fakers added to make it hard)

The first letter of the middle name is the number away from the end of the alphabet as either x or y in the equation: X(to the)y = y (to the) X where x doesn't equal y.
Last letter of middle name is the inital of a non-face card game (like uno, only not Uno)

I still think it could be Warrick - looking at the letters left - I've come up with Thaniel and Nathiel - I know these aren't real names but as mentioned above us LDS aren't unknown for making them up.
I was thinking if it was ....iel ...ick I can see where the sounds like Melchizedek comes from
I reckon Thaniel Warrick - that leaves only E & V over

Trachea Winkler also uses them all but 2. All my suggestions so far have. Too bad the W kills Lawrence.
Both come from families with Johnathans, Davids, and the like. No Rulons or Verles. I guess it's conceivable that they went with something chinese, but it that's the case...

if the first name is "charlie", then with the other letters you could do a "witaker"... problem is, it's usually spelled "whitaker"... you leave aside the n and the v.

Whitaker is a family name of some note. What can be made from the rest? ... Ric Van? Now theres a possibility, more than two names. In which scenario, she did use the word "second" rather than middle, I think.
Carlin Whitaker? I don't think they liked Bill and Ted that much. They are not, by the way, LOTR fans. Verlin Whitaker. Hmmm. Cavern Whitaker.
