So for the past few weeks, I've wakened to the sounds of my pet dog scurrying and clawing on the other side of the wall. There's only one problem.
I don't have a dog. And the sounds are coming from above.
This is horrifying. There's SOMETHING living in the walls and ceiling, and while I've never seen any other evidence, I'm hearing it every mornng. What do I do? And yeah, it sounds bigger than a mouse. I think there's only one, but I don't know of entrances to the walls. Anyone know what my options are?
There was a fire in my building a few months, and I think it opened some of the walls up. I'll bet that's how it got in.

Don't be too grossed out by the rat idea. I wouldn't touch a wild one, but many people keep them as pets and they can be really loving. They just LOOK ugly. I'm not saying yours don't have rabies, but just try to keep it in perspective.

Is it possible that your old lover now stalker built a teleportation device? Only, when he first tried it out there was some sort of a bug in it? Let's say a fly. Now he's some kind of stalker man-bug who lives in your ceiling and watches you sleep only to scuttle away when he sees you starting to wake up in the morning?
Oh, and he steals your magazines becuase he's pretty bored. He also thinks you should get cooler magazines.

Yeah, but if it's the guy who was in there before her wouldn't she notice the teleportation device? (Of course, she didn't say there *wasn't* one)
And don't even try to tell me that the teleportation isn't key. I think I've made it pretty clear that it's integral to the situation.

If the varmint was living behind her couch or the drapes or the refridgerator, maybe a ferret would help. Personally, I think a Turkey Vulture would be a much better idea. Or a hippo.

It's probably a squirrel. There were two or three living in my parent's roof, and in the middle of the night they'd run back and forth along the soffett (sp?) and make whatever vocalizations they make. It got really annoying really quickly.
But what was fun was when I took a pond (pool) skimmer and ran it along the underside of the soffett where they were and scared them out of the roof. I got one of them to leap out of the side of the roof where their hole was and it fell two stories and landed on the sidewalk, on it's back. Amazingly enough it then ran off.

plus, buying a house doesn't make the problem go away, it just makes it your responsibility.
Kat, we have this issue and it *is* squirrels in our case. Also, that is more common than a rat or possum problem around here. Raccoons tend to be surprisingly huge, and I couldn't really picture them spending a lot of time in the walls and ceiling.
My bet is "squirrel".

Yay! I talked to the mangers this morning and they say squirrell as well. I think I can live with that - there's no physical evidence, and now that I'm not picturing that rat from Charlotte's Web staring at me at night, I'll be okay.
They are also changing the lock on my mailbox.

Ver, welcome to Hatrack. I'm delighted with the advice I've gotten in this thread. Very funny and informative as usual - vintage Hatrack. I'm not looking to change my living situation and am very happy where I currently am. Thank you, though. It sounds like you are very happy with your current situation as well.
