I am working on a one-man show for my drama class. FOr those of you who don't know, a one-man show is bascially a set of monologues strung together by a single story, all acted out by one person.

Mine is mobsters. Chicago, in the twenties. I'm gonna tell what the whole thing is without giving much background info, so be prepared to use google.

First monologue: Johnny Torrio is calling his old friend Frankie Yale in New York. Yale picks up the phone and we hear his half of the conversation. They're setting up the deal for Yale to kill Colosimo, who won't move to use Prohibition to his advantage, so Torrio can take over the Colosimo empire.

Second: Torrio is at dinner with one of the Gemnas. He says grace, crosses himself, and starts telling about his "American Dream"(which is the title of my one-man show). He dreams of a city where people can walk in safety, without fear('cause violence drives customers away from the city). He dreams of a city where a gangster doesn't have to watch his back every minute of the day. In short, he dreams of a city united in its crime and low in violence.

Third: Ed O'Banion is in jail, talking to his brothers. Ed was the leader of one of Chicago's O'Banion gangs. He tells his brothers not to mind that Torrio is Sicilian and they're Irish, it doesn't matter, just do what Torrio says for now, but if there are any actual deals to be made, bring them to him.

Fourth: Al Capone, in a bar or a club, several years later. Celebrating, ordering drinks for everyone, tipping big. Torrio's going back to Sicily and giving Capone the city. Al Capone finally gets down to business and diiscusses some troubles with a few gangs; suggests solving them violently(destruction of Torrio's works).

This is to be 5-15 minutes in length, to be finished in May. I'll be posting the full script when I'm done. Right now I'd just like suggestions--how to get the right appearance, mannerisms, etc. How do you think I should do costumes, if any. Stuff you think I should put in the monologues--maybe even a line that sounds good to you. All help is appreciated.

Wow, that sounds like an awesome project!

I don't have any suggestions at the moment, but I'll think about it, and post on this thread again. That'll take some thought.

I just wanted to say good luck, sounds like a blast! [Smile]
