Did anyone else happen to catch the 1971 episode of the Dick Cavett show that they were running on C-span 2 last night? It featured a 27 year old John Kerry speaking out against the Vietnam War. He was really very impressive. Intelligent and articulate without the ultra-careful quality he has now. I'm going to build a time machine and get that John Kerry to run for president. Of course, if you bring a 27 year old man into the future, is he still 27 years old? If so, he wouldn't be old enough to be president. Man, would that make some good court TV. Hanging chads have nothing on time travel when it comes to screwing up the electoral process.

If you managed time travel, I think that the courts would decide that time travel is impossible, therefore you didn't bring him back from the past, therefore he doesn't exist (all other evidence notwithstanding), and therefore he is not a citizen, therefore he cannot run for president.

But I've got video of him on the Dick Cavett Show. That's got to count for something.

There's a short story by Issac Asimov about that. A man coommits a crime, then steps into a time machine and reappearing the day after the statute of limitations is up.

You can make the argument that the 35-year-old limitation on the presidency is the most harmful and stupid restriction we've still got in the Constitution.

Or, at least, you can until GWB manages to get the Defense of Marriage amendment passed.
