Remember when 1 and 1 was offering that deal for the free web storage? Well, I signed up for it. Then it hit me, I don't know nothin' 'bout settin' up no web page. Also, the address for the page is kind of difficult to remember.

So the purpose of this topic: I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could give me in setting up the web page, from nothing. And a sub-domain from some would be nice. I really hope that someone, if not more than one of you can help me.

You'll have to buy your own domain [Smile] . Don't worry, they cost $6 or $7 a year.

As for a web page, just pick something you want to make a web page about and then work through the html tutorial here: http://www.w3schools.com . You can deal with uploading files later (are you on windows or a mac, btw?) once you know the basics of html (don't forget to experiment; the examples are interactive for a reason, and you can't hurt anything).

Well, I already have a grasp on HTML, (thanks for the tutorials, I will look at them) so I can make the web page. The purpose for someone giving me a subdomain name is that it is free. However, I had no idea that they were so cheap, and I will probably beg and plead for my mom to write the checks (I bleieve that I can make up $7 in one year).

Thank you again, and any help you can give me on the uploading fromt would be much appreciated as well.

well, here is my web page, in all of it's lack of glory. However, it will be more, and it will have a name as well.

My web page

I really like how the website turned out. Though the books section is not finished, I will still call it complete, seeing that I don't plan to get around to that for quite some time.

I signed up for that, but I'm way too lazy to do anything. And tired.

...so tired...

Wow

kinda dark (hard for old people like me to read) but other than that, very nice.

Like your title banner across the top.

Farmgirl

edit: yeah, I'm using IE

For not knowing "nothin' 'bout settin' up no web page," that's pretty fancy.

I love how the background stays put when you scroll.

Edit: I just tried it in IE, and it is way cooler in Mozilla. The note at the top is correct. [Smile]

It is true. I have four different effects that do not display correctly in IE.

1) The background of the panels change colour when hovered over.

2) That banner mentioned slides up over the header image.

3) On the music page, a menu of teh albums of each artist pops down.

4) The nav. bar stays in a fixed position on the page.

None of these appear in IE. Every other browser shows them properly. If it were viewed in say Mozilla, or Opera, or even Safari, it would not be too dark to read.

EDIT: And it only took me a month to do it, too.

We'll see. I'll try to use it before the end of the school year and if I don't find anything to do with it, I'll let you.

So -- you wrote a site that doesn't appear properly in the web browsers of say..... 95% of the population of computers out there?

I mean -- I like Mozilla and the other browsers better than I.E. tooo -- at home. But most people who work, have to work with I.E. -- and they don't have choices as to which browser they use.

Personally, I think it is up to the designer to make it so it works for everyone -- not the opposite -- telling everyone else THEY need to change to suit HIS page.

*just razzing ya STN*

Farmgirl

p.s. -- STN -- what is a "thrower" on your track team? Does that mean javelin? You throw javelin?

Not jav. That is too dangerous for high school. I throw shot and disc, and I must say, I am not too good at it.

As for the page, if I had done it in JavaScript, it would work for everyone. However, I believe that a webpage should not be that complicated to make. It is not un-viewable, just some of the more creative effects are not viewable in IE, because, well, IE sucks as far as compliance goes.

I know I have just one small site, but the call for compliance has to be echoed by as many people as possible.
