Another movie where the plot had to be juiced to make it more interesting, apparently.

Just watched the trailer. Appears to be just like the movie, except Phineas Phogg is more of a twit. Also he's a manic inventor. Also he's a manic inventor of outlandish inventions like automatic lighting and rollerblades. Oh, and he uses his inventions to help him accomplish the trip. And the conditions of his bet state that if he doesn't make it, he can't invent anymore. And I've heard the rumor that Passepartout is a Chinese thief who stole a valuable jade Buddha and got a job with Phogg to hide...

Sigh. Yet another movie I can only watch if I forget it was ever based on anything else. This looks more like Disney decided that it was a good story, but so was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, hey, if we take two good stories...

I admit I like the idea of Jackie Chan playing Passepartout, but what was wrong with the story? There have been several excellent versions without CGI (I thought Pierce Brosnan made an excellent Phogg).

Next we'll have The Adventures of Tom Sawyer only Huck is a girl and Tom is being chased by alien robots with lasers comng out of their feet.

I agree. Mr. Chan doesn't seem very French to me. I dispair over movie adaptations sometimes.

There already is one movie of this book -- starring David Niven (I believe) as Phineas Phog. I remember loving it when I saw it, but I was only six. This new one should be... um, interesting.

It's probably better than Eric Idle starring in a remake of "The Legend of Drunken Master".
