You can find out for yourself -- there's a webcam on top of the boat that's looking for it! Apparently they're sweeping the whole area with sonar, etc, to determine if Nessie really exists...

What do you guys think of hoaxers? When I was younger, I would have been creating elaborate plans for getting a fake Nessie in front of that camera. It wouldn't have had to have been terrifically realistic--I wouldn't have minded if it had been immediately recognized as rubberized paper mache or something--but I would have felt almost compelled to do it. Well, to plan it, anyway. My friends and I never did create the fake UFO landing site we figured out how to do, and we didn't try to pull off any of the "Weeping Mary" hoaxes, although we went as far as testing the principle by which the statues can be made to "cry". We did do a bunch of Lazlo Toth style letters to corporations, although we only sent a couple of them. I generally loved reading about hoaxes and hoax attempts when I was younger, and loved planning them out and constructing them, but I never quite had the heart to pull them off.

Hmm...the cameras (I've been looking at Cam 1 as well) don't appear to actually be refreshing. That's a bit disappointing. Any ideas why?

The Loch Ness monster is all hype. The real deal comes from where I grew up and is called the Ogopogo. Here is a link to some info on the Ogopogo.

Remember, CT, how at one point at least a few people suspected that I was actually an alias of yours? I have to admit it briefly crossed my mind to see if I could fool most people here into thinking that that was actually the case. Somehow fooling people into thinking that I wasn't actually real sounded like more fun than fooling people into thinking that an identity was real when it wasn't.
But, once again, my kindness trumped my devilishness.
Hmmm...we really need an angelic smiley to go with , don't we?

As much as I hate to say it, I don't think there is a Nessie... anymore.
Since the first photos date back to what, the 1930s, I'd like to think that back in the day, there was a monster out there. Since then, however, I think old age has taken it to its watery grave and its old bones lie in the mud and muck.
I've said it before, I'm a real cryptozoology buff, so I sure hope that they find something in my lifetime that says either Nessie does exist or at least DID exist.

They actually get the lake monster from the Loch next to Ness to come over and swim around once in a while just to confuse everyone.
The nearby loch, Loch Midors, is smaller and not nearly in as good a neigborhood, which really gets the monster, known as Englebert Poindexter (no relation to the Admiral) po'd.

You know, I'd forgotten it, but I *was* the first person to post as God, at least in this version of the forum. It was shortly after I'd originally signed up in 1999, and my phrasing was, if I do say so myself, freaking hilarious.
I doubt that that counts as a hoax, though, since I wasn't actually trying to trick anyone into thinking God was actually posting. I made the username publicly available with the password YHVH, but I don't think anybody but me ever used it. I tried logging on with that name a few months ago when there was a ban on new users, thinking that if the account still worked I could give it to somebody, but it had been deleted.

Not believe in Nessie! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch every inch of the surface of the Loch, but even if you did not see Nessie surface, what would that prove? Nobody sees the Loch Ness Monster, but that is no sign that there is no Loch Ness Monster. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.
You tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Kasie, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.
No Loch Ness Monster! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Kasie, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

Heh--that'd be fun! You know what we could do--we could leave tell-tale bigfoot foot prints in the field as well. With any luck we could link the two phenomena.

Nessie was eaten by a pack of rampaging Big Foots (Big Feet?) who took a wrong turn heading for Seattle and ended up in Scottland.
There the rare "Hot Trekkie Girl" (that many consider a myth) shot them all with a hand built phaser, MacGyvered from a toaster, two microwave ovens and the eltrically charged outer covering of an eel skin wallet.
