Usually 65. 75 on more rural stretches. I think it may be down to 55 on a very few portions where there are tighter curves or narrower lanes or tons of traffic, but it's been a while.

I think it only lowers to 55 where there's construction.

Does anyone else have double fines for speeding in a construction zone?

The speed limit in Utah is as fast as you can possibly go without actually hitting the car in front of you.

I think PSI was asking about the legal speed limit, not the actual speed limit.

Actually, I was asking about the speed limit with out-of-state tags, while following a semi.

I think you're talking about driving up from AZ, PSI, and if that's the case. Most of Hwy 89 from Flagsaff all the way to Hwy 20 (where you jog over to the 15 is set at 65mph. A nice diversion is to go through Jacob Lake and Fredonia into Kanab. If you've never driven the Page route, do it once, but come back a different way.

added: if you want help with route planning PSI, email me and I'd be happy to chat with you about it.

Spoken like a true Northern Utahn, with no idea that the state extends south of Provo. The vast majority of the freeways in the state are 75 mph. As far as I know, only in the Provo/ Salt Lake areas does it dip down to 65 mph.

Spoken like a true Utahn who lives near a freeway. [Big Grin]

But you're right. On normal, non-freeway highways, the max speed limit is 65. You can go probably 71 with no worries. Unlike the jackass cops in Colorado, our highway patrol does not seek out out-of-staters to ticket. [Smile] We actually like it when people visit our state.

Actually, peter, we'll be stopping Kingman to get some more relatives. Then it will be on to Las Vegas, and north from there. Is that a different highway?

If your going that way, then It's 65 to Las Vegas and pretty much 75 the rest of the way on I-15. It's a bit longer of a drive in both time and distance, but if you've got people to see, it's not that big a deal.

Also, If you're looking for someplace cheap to stay in Nevada, Mesquite has rates of $30/night if it's not a Friday or Saturday.

If you don't plan on stopping in Kingman going both ways, I recommend the Jacob's Lake route. Oh, and a Laptop with a DVD drive works wonders for the kids. (voice of experience)

We are going to be spending the night in Kingman where our relatives live, and then making the trip from Kingman to Stockton in one day. I like the idea about the laptop. My cousin and I will have two three-year-olds and a one-year-old. Should be LOADS of fun. *weak smile*

For my kids who are used to being in their car seats, we can do a drive like that with only a few stops. Usually a short break a few hours in. Stop for lunch somewhere that has running around space available, like McD's with a Playland. (St George, might be a good place for you) Usually an hour total should be enough for us. Then another decent length stop mid afternoon before you get there. (Just let the kids run around the convenience store at the gas station)

I've found that a normal 11-12 hour trip takes closer to 14, but is much more pleasant when broken up to let the kiddos get their wiggles out. Also, it's nice for grownups to get the breaks too. Stretching and not staring at the approaching horizon are good things... [Smile]

Wouldn't it be more appropriate on many levels to call people from Utah "Utahites" instead of "Utahns"? [Big Grin]

Peter, I think I expect an eleven-hour trip for me to be eleven hours with the kids as well. But only because my cousin drives like a maniac. [Big Grin]

Hey, whatever you can get away with. My sis-in-law made it from Provo to her home in Oro Valley in 9 hours, but her and her friends agreed to all go at least 95mph and split the cost of any tickets that were received along the way. [Eek!]

Rakeesh, would you like us to start calling people from Florida, Florites?

You can call me a Utahite if I can call you a Florite.

Yes, well Nate, Florida wasn't founded by people with the history of dozens of tribes in their background ending with the letters -ite.

It wasn't a crack or anything, just the word 'Utahite' got a chuckle outta me. Now laugh, dangit!

Besides, we're "Flori-duhians".

OK, Katie can call me a Florite or a Floridate. Nathan, on the other hand, definitely cannot. Or else I'll swipe his lunch money.

Rakeesh, laughing would be admitting you are funny, and heaven forbid I admit that. [Wink]

As for the lunch money.

Heal
Heal
Heal
Humilation
Grab
Round House
Toe Stomp.

You're dead.

PS- Lunch Money is a game my friend has that involved Catholic School Girls and play ground fighting. It was quite fun. [Smile]

Nate,

OK, from now on I'm garnishing your lunch money with a knuckle sammich! [Mad] Fortunately, I don't think it'll be too difficult. Your defense involves playgrounds and Catholic school girls...not very intimidating, to say the least [Wink]

Ha! Hear that, Storm, Icky, and Zan? Rakeesh = #1 in Florida. In yo' face!

Dude, catholic school girls can be pretty scary sometimes.

They even have lead pipes and hammers and chains!

I was healing myself. And, I forgot, it was called First Aid.
