Marlozahn, little Elijah and I are possibly moving from Utah to Washington on May 24th on a Monday. So far we found that Uhaul is cheaper (about $800 with gas). (We have checked Budget, Penske, Upak and Ryder) But If anyone knows of a cheaper Truck Rental that would be wonderful! Our apartment holds 2-3 bedroom worth of stuff...

Rent it local and overnights. Disconnect the odometer, drive it wherever, and then drive it back empty. (Or vice versa).

Of course, it takes longer.

And it's illegal.

Possibly immoral too.

But it's really easy.

And it will save you about $700.

Budget and Ryder are actually the same company these days.

Unfortunately those are basic market rates and I doubt you will be able to get any cheaper. Though generally reserving online gives you a small price break.

Actually, I have found significant rate differences by just calling every major company in the phone book.

But then I just disconnect the odometer anyway . . .

You might also talk with Public Storage. They have a deal where you can put your stuff in a storage container and they will ship it for you. It's pretty affordable and then you don't have to deal with driving a truck...that's how my mother moved her stuff from Denver to Washington.

Where in Washington are you moving?
