I'm in need of some Hatrack (in a lot more ways than one [Smile] ). This time, I have a question that slightly relates to OSC and to Brazilian culture.

It's related to my research, which is why I'm breaking my Hatrack fast to discuss it. [Smile]

I'm writing my art history paper on tree symbolism in Mexican folk art. The pre-columbian legends that I'm working from have very common occurances of trees growing from dead bodies. Sometimes, it's a sacrificial victim, sometimes even a skeleton, but as part of the life/death dualiity that still persists in Mexican culture today, it brings forth a new/renewed life in the form of a tree.

Needless to say, this reminded me immediately of the piggies. Where does the piggy death/transformation come from? Is there a Brazilian legend or precedent for this? I'd be fascinated to find any sources for something like that because it would help me immensely with context and comparison with similar cultures.

Also, on a related note, I haven't been around, but I also can't remember hearing from Eduardo in a very long time. Where is he? Is he OK?

He is fine, but he has been very busy with teaching, even to the point of cancelling our DnD games last week.

Tonight he has had a problem with his modem, and hopes to have it resolved tomorrow, so that we can play on Thursday night.

I would speak to him about this...he would probably be your best chance from what I know of finding someone who is conversent in both Brazilian culture and OSC books.... [Big Grin]
